Job Summary:


The Division of Academic Affairs is seeking an Assessment Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.


Oregon State University (OSU) has been continuously accredited since 1924 and was reaccredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). To maintain NWCCU accreditation, OSU must meet standards and requirements, including writing comprehensive University self-evaluation reports for review by peer evaluators and participate in site-visits. The spirit of accreditation is the principle of continuous assessment and improvement of student learning outcomes.


Ongoing assessment responsibilities are assigned to staff in the Division of Academic Affairs. Academic Affairs is committed to advancing and supporting rigorous, transformative education accessible to all learners. Program and curriculum planning including assessment are key to providing high quality education for all OSU students. Full-cycle program assessment and the continual improvement process ensures the quality of OSU's academic programs, high value of the credentials we offer our graduates, and fulfillment of university goals and accreditation standards.


The Assessment Coordinator will:

  • Build and maintain strong networks with university partners working on assessment.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, administer, and execute university-wide assessment processes as a member of the Division of Academic Affairs.
  • Provide assessment expertise to manage the assessment and evaluation efforts of Core Education and academic programs.
  • Promote the use of assessment results in ongoing planning and decision-making necessary for OSU to achieve mission fulfillment and institutional accreditation.
  • Exercise the highest level of effective, ethical, and timely decision-making, often under tight deadlines and pressures.
  • Contribute to the diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that are outlined in OSU's Diversity Action Plan which have the goal to expand access to higher education, solve problems through research and innovation, and enhance prosperity for every community across the state, and by extension the nation and world.

Key Responsibilities


50% – Assessment of CORE Education (General Education)
  • Provide professional assessment support to faculty submitting courses to the Core Education Committee (CEC) for review, including new courses submitted through the Curriculum Inventory Management tool (CIM) and courses undergoing Category Review.
  • Gather and review CEC data, write reports, and facilitate discussions with faculty, CEC members, and University stakeholders.
  • Provide assessment advice and support to CEC members for both new course submissions and overarching assessment of Core Education categories.
  • Collaborate with the Core Education Director on assessment and continuous improvement of CEC.
  • Plan, develop, conduct, and evaluate assessment workshops and individual help sessions for faculty undergoing Core Education assessment.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain effective communication with faculty and leadership involved with CEC.
  • Create and maintain assessment data collection systems for CEC assessment, including all student work samples used to evaluate the efficacy of Core Education.
  • Analyze collected assessment data and compile reports to facilitate CEC review of courses and to support University assessment processes.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with stakeholders to align assessments with the goals of OSU’s Diversity Action Plan.







40% – Program Assessment
  • Review Program Assessment Reports, including evaluating Annual Assessment Reports from graduate and undergraduate programs; write Annual Assessment Feedback Reports.
  • Ensure compliance with OSU policies and external accreditation standards; troubleshoot assessment issues when asked.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain communication with faculty and program assessment leads/coordinators involved with program assessment.
  • Work with members of the University community to adopt strategies and processes that align with best practices in program assessment, while taking into consideration individual programs’ unique identities, strengths, and educational goals.
  • Create assessment resources to assist with Core Education and program assessments; edit and maintain assessment pages on the assessment website and canvas site.
  • Assist with NWCCU accreditation activities including analyzing student-learning outcome data, helping to write and edit documents, and preparing materials for evaluation site visits.



5% –Systems Management
  • Manage data collection systems and databases used for assessment.
  • Provide ongoing training and support for faculty and administrators using data collection systems and databases.
  • Research and implement new tools including AI to assist faculty and assessment staff.
  • Coordinate with Information Technology updates and site maintenance for data collection systems and databases.



5% – Service and Leadership Development
  • Serve on the Core Education Committee or other committees as directed.
  • Maintain awareness of AAC&U General Education activities.
  • Participates in ongoing training and development in assessment of student learning and general education.
  • Additional duties and activities as assigned.





What You Will Need


  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on academic program assessments.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working in an institution of higher education building and sustaining strong collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators from all levels of the University.
  • Experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data and evaluating statistical information to document academic program effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills; outstanding written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in collaborating, communicating, and building relationships with peers and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to take initiative, prioritize multiple assignments, and meet deadlines, often on tight timeline and under pressures.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments with minimal supervision, asking questions when clarifications are needed.
  • Proficiency in the use of electronic databases (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and/or equivalent software); demonstrated skills in organizing information into reports, charts, tables, and graphs.
  • Experience managing complex projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the University’s mission and core values, including a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, as demonstrated by proactive initiative, efforts, collaborations, and/or educational experiences.






This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.



What We Would Like You to Have


  • Master’s degree in a field related to education, assessment and evaluation, management, and/or educational administration.
  • 4 or more years of administrative experience with academic program assessment in a university or higher education setting.
  • Experience working with Canvas, Qualtrics, Drupal, Course Leaf, Banner, and Data Warehouse and other University-wide data access systems.
  • Experience gathering data and writing reports.





Working Conditions / Work Schedule


  • Work environment is in an office setting which requires working at a computer terminal. The position is based at the Corvallis, Oregon campus, with a mix of in person and remote meetings.
  • Frequent contact and work with a variety of faculty, staff, and students
  • Regular handling of confidential information
  • The work schedule may include occasional evening commitments and meetings.
  • Position may include occasional out of state travel to attend meetings and conferences.
