Overview



A Mate is a deck officer who shares responsibility for navigating the vessel, overseeing loading and unloading of cargo, supervising activities of the deck crew, and other duties not carried out by the Captain.


Key Responsibilities:

• Greet and assist guests with boat rentals, docking, and fueling


• Provide exceptional customer service, answering inquiries and ensuring guest satisfaction


• Assist with boat inspections and maintenance to ensure safe and seaworthy vessels


• Monitor the marina area for safety and security


• Coordinate and schedule boat reservations


• Offer guidance and instructions on boating regulations and safety procedures


• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the marina area


• Assist with special events and activities related to the marina

Qualifications

• Assisting the Captain in navigating the ship, including planning the route and monitoring navigational aids.


• Supervising the loading, stowage, securing, and unloading of cargoes.


• Managing the work schedules of the deck crew, ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely and safe manner.


• Conducting regular safety drills, including firefighting and lifeboat drills, to ensure crew readiness in emergencies.


• Maintaining all deck gear, equipment, and machinery, ensuring they are fully functional and meet safety standards.


• Keeping official logs such as the deck log and navigation log, and ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared and preserved.


• Enforcing policies and regulations to maintain an environmentally secure and compliant ship.


• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed


• Previous experience in marina operations or hospitality industry is a plus
