The Independence Infocus configuration team is a small and flexible team responsible for implementing the vision of the actuarial product rating process. The   Senior Actuarial/Underwriting Systems Analyst will employ a hybrid approach with configuring and maintaining the organization’s internal rating application. While the candidate will primarily utilize a vendor specific software to implement solutions, basic experience in software development is needed. Experience with technologies such as VBA, SQL, Microsoft Reporting Services, Big Query, XML and JSON is also required.


 


·       Primary responsibility will be for the analysis, understanding, and documenting of Actuarial and Underwriting business requirements. 


·       Leveraging Optum’s Stepwise tools, the configurators/developers employ a hybrid approach to maintaining and building out the Infocus solution.


·       The configurators rely upon a coding syntax uniquely developed by Optum which allow custom rating modules and capabilities to be developed.


·       Configurators possess the skillset to extrapolate requirements from a series of complex actuarial pricing models


·       Stepwise configurators must integrate more mainstream technologies to support frontend and backend development, and auxiliary API integrations.  


·       Position will be expected to initiate, lead and participate in business requirements efforts. Be the liaison between business SME and technical staff. Be representative of actuarial and underwriting on corporate projects


·       Ability to work with multiple business systems and have extensive understanding of system design


·       Provide guidance to business SMEs for best practices.


·       Responsible for successful execution of the testing and change control processes for actuarial and underwriting enterprise systems.


·       Ensure that change control procedures are developed, followed and documented.


·       Keep up with, understand and communicate industry best practices regarding business analysis, business process and systems.


 


EXPERIENCE


·       Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.


·       Minimum of 5 years progressive experience working as a business analyst


·       Must be detail oriented, skilled in problem solving and knowledgeable of insurance concepts and rating techniques.


·       Strong analytical and problem solving skills; advanced analytical, technical and problem solving skill


·       Strong verbal and written communication skills.


·       Ability to  elicit and gather business requirements. 


·       Advanced requirements, business process documenting skills.


·       Advanced SQL skills. 


·       Strong systems testing skills.


·       Knowledge of SDLC and change management processes. 


·       Effective facilitation and presentation skills necessary to demonstrate business solutions in a clear and concise manner.


·       Exhibits a prescribed level of proficiency across all competencies as defined in the Underwriting Competency Model.


·       Knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of products (Access, Word and Excel). 



  • Experience with technologies such as VBA, Microsoft Reporting Services, Big Query, XML and JSON is also required


·       Detailed Knowledge of Underwriting technology and support systems.


Independence has implemented a “Hybrid” model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the “Hybrid” model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania
