JOB TITLE:               Deputy Editor  (part or full time) 

SALARY:                  Salary starting at 70K for full time, plus benefits, 50K for part time, can increase    based on experience       

DEPARTMENT:     Editorial

LOCATION:            Remote and in person

Truthdig is a progressive online journal of news and opinion that provides insightful and accurate reporting on current issues of the day. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The  Deputy Editor understands the news industry, the progressive community and sees the big picture, leading the team with their strong news sense, hands-on approach, original story assignments, strong writing and editing skills.

MAJOR DUTIES  

  • Line editing  
  • Write blog items, articles, interviews, reviews, profiles and multimedia stories
  • Recruit and work with writers 
  • Network and create alliances with affiliates 
  • Foster website’s mission, vision and culture 
  • Analyze data as it pertains to editorial thematics
  • Lead team meetings

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

BA or higher in Journalism, Communications, or related field required

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years in an editorial managerial position within a news organization

Other:

WordPress expertise

Proficiency with CMS
