Job Description:

The Certified Medical Assistant provides and coordinates the delivery of clinical and non-clinical services under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. This position also performs a variety of clerical duties to assist the Registered Nurse in clinic. Additionally, the medical assistant will support and back up the Care Coordinator Line to maintain optimal workflow for patient care as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
Assists the Registered Nurse or Provider during the patients intake/discharge process in an Outpatient Wound Care Clinic. Assisting healthcare providers, or Registered Nurse during wound-related procedures such a debridement. Collecting, recording and reporting data that includes allergies, weight and height, vitals (Temperature, Pulse and Respiration, Blood Pressure (BP) and blood sugar readings) as requested by Registered Nurse or Provider. Performing dressing changes and ensuring proper hygiene to prevent infections. Taking wound photography and measurement recording per Registered Nurse. Adhering to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections in the wound care setting. Charting and tracking the observed responses to treatment per the Registered Nurse or Provider Recording care given and observed responses to treatment, including participation in wound care plan per Registered Nurse or provider. Reporting unusual observations or changes in patient condition/behavior. Collecting specimens as requested by the Registered Nurse or Provider. Educating patients on wound care protocols, medications, and follow-up instructions. Tracks patient visit information to include entering documentation in database systems or on paper forms. Completes unit tasks such as cleaning exams areas, as well as stocking inventory and sterile instrument, and performing other unit tasks as required. Assist with transfers and maintaining patient safety. Answering the phone, greet patients and visitors, routing calls to appropriate staff, scheduling patient appointments. Assembling new charts, maintaining and filing existing charges, spot checking charts for data completeness and signatures. Maintaining office equipment and supplies, as well as inventory as needed.
