Senior Financial Analyst – R&D
Location: Chandler-HQ, Arizona

Duties & Responsibilities:

Position Description:

VIAVI Solutions is looking for the best and brightest to drive the analytics for key strategic decisions in a fast-paced Technology environment.  The Senior Financial Analyst of R&D will be responsible for management reporting, project analysis, forecasting and planning for the worldwide R&D organization of the Networking and Service Enablement (NSE) Business Segment of VIAVI with an annual budget of around $175 million.  

VIAVI’s NSE business operates in a fast-paced environment with Business Units, engineering teams, and manufacturing locations across the globe. Reporting to the Director of NSE Finance, this role requires frequent interaction with senior management in the corporate office, partnering with Business Unit leaders, the SVP of R&D and team.  This position will also support key centralized functions within the NSE Business Segment.

  • Understanding of corporate accounting, financial analysis, benchmarking, ROI modeling, and variance analysis in a fast paced, ever changing technology environment.

  • Ability to work independently on department budgets and quarterly forecasts while providing optionality to business partners to keep VIAVI on track to financial commitments amidst changing business needs.

  • Exceptional analytical skills.

  • Ability to produce coherent and succinct executive level management reports.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally across all levels of the organization.

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


  • Oversee and manage the global R&D budget for the NSE segment which spans several cost centers with ~1000 headcount.

  • Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.

  • Analyze budget variances and provide actionable insights to R&D leadership.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the R&D organization and the corporate finance leadership team.

  • Develop and report financial metrics and KPIs through weekly dashboards.

  • Proactively provide financial modeling, analysis, and decision-making support for business cases and capital allocation decisions.

  • Collaborate with R&D and Business Unit leaders to align financial goals with business objectives and product development roadmaps.

  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the R&D leadership team.

  • Lead initiatives to develop and improve financial systems and processes.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate financial policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrate the ability to be highly detail oriented and well organized, while also understanding the bigger picture and communicating key findings to executive level management.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications:


  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is required; MBA or CPA preferred.

  • Significant experience in finance, preferably within the technology or hardware manufacturing industry.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.

  • Experience working in a global, publicly traded, matrixed organization is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • An understanding of US-GAAP, SOX, and GL accounting.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel essential.

  • Familiarity with Oracle, Hyperion Planning, Essbase, MS Access, Tableau, OBIEE is desirable.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
