Sr. Accountant at Sotera Health Services LLC in BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio

Job Description:

We are continuing to develop our "One Company" strategy; this position is within our Shared Services organization to support our North American operations. We are looking for proactive, curious financial talent to join our shared services accounting team and continue building our organization focused on process efficiency, customer service and continuous improvement. The Senior Accountant will report to the Shared Services Controller in our Broadview Heights, OH Corporate HQ. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can contribute and develop in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities


  • Perform month end close process of the Company's North American operating units and Corporate HQ in a timely and accurate manner
  • Understand each operation's trial balance and nature and contents of each account
  • Prepare month end journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Analyze account balances to identify discrepancies and propose solutions to resolve identified errors
  • Develop monthly variance analysis to identify possible issues and to explain monthly results and trends
  • Produce reports, month end analysis, and other ad hoc requests from the location, business unit or corporate finance functions
  • Work closely with the accounting and finance team and business partners to answer questions and support the business
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and account analyses for internal and external reporting purposes
  • Participate in periodic forecasting activities and the annual budget process
  • Ensure accounting procedures are performed timely and in accordance with company standards and policies
  • Ensure internal controls are properly executed and comply with Sarbanes Oxley
  • Generate and execute recommendations for financial reporting and business process improvements and internal controls enhancements
  • Work closely with external auditors on the annual integrated financial audit, including quarterly reviews and filings under our credit agreement
  • Assist with the adoption of new accounting guidance and other accounting/reporting related initiatives
  • Develop and maintain expertise regarding GAAP and other financial reporting rules and requirements

Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Strong accounting knowledge - strong knowledge of US GAAP and the ability to properly apply accounting rules and guidance and to effectively communicate complex accounting issues across the organization
  • Solid analytical skills - a professional who is able to apply strong analytical skills to produce accurate reporting and to improve various aspects of the close and reporting processes
  • Track record of continuous improvement - an energetic individual who is not satisfied with the status quo and is always focused on the improvement of business processes, reporting, and controls within his or her team and across the organization
  • Proactive approach - someone who addresses each task with a sense of urgency and is capable of generating a high volume of quality work products
  • Good systems knowledge - experience and understanding of JDE or similar enterprise systems, HFM consolidations system

Other Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 4-5 years in corporate accounting or shared services environment
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Public Accounting experience a plus
  • Ability to work overtime and effectively under tight time constraints as required at peak reporting periods
  • Strong PC skills including advanced Excel (pivot tables, macros, etc.)
  • Strong English skills (written and verbal)
  • Occasional travel possible
