The Cardiovascular Technologist uses electrocardiography (ECG), holter monitoring, cardiac ultrasound, echocardiography, exercise stress testing, and pacemaker evaluation to observe, monitor, and evaluate the cardiac function of patients.


  • Monitors patients' blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment, during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.


  • Prepares reports of diagnostic procedures for interpretation by physicians.


  • Conducts cardiovascular tests to record patients' cardiac activity, using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.


  • Obtains and records patients' identification, medical history, and test results.


  • Maintains cardiology equipment, making minor repairs to ensure proper operation.


  • Assists physicians in diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular treatments.


  • Observes and records vascular information, such as blood pressure, limb volume changes, oxygen saturation, and cerebral circulation.


  • Assesses cardiac physiology and calculates valve areas from blood flow velocity measurements. Explains procedures to patients and carries out procedures under the direction of a physician.


  • Observes heart activity and evaluates test results for abnormal patterns.


  • Makes preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results for physicians' study and diagnosis.


  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:



Associate degree in relevant field



Experience:



Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
