Position Summary

The Division of Education and Leadership at Governors State University in University Park, IL, United States, invites candidates to apply for a Lecturer (Unit B) position in our Educational Administration program to begin August 2024. This is a full-time, twelve-month teaching position for the following programs: Master's Degree in Educational Administration (Principal Leadership), Graduate Certificate in Teacher Leadership, and Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership (Superintendent Leadership).Interested candidates must have 1) passion and commitment to develop leaders who will improve equity and educational outcomes of diverse communities; 2) potential for effective teaching; 3) strong communication skills; and 4) robust commitment to technology and online learning. The essential duties include:
  • Teach graduate courses on the University Park campus, at external cohort locations, and online

  • Supervise principal leadership internships at external field sites

  • Collaborate with faculty in the program's continuous improvement and development process, including external accreditation with the Council for Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP)

    Educational Administration ProgramThe GSU Educational Administration (EDAD) program is an institutional member of the International Council for Professors of Educational Leadership (ICPEL) and the Illinois Council of Professors of Educational Administration (ICPEA). The Principal Leadership program earned National Recognition in Fall 2023 from the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA) Specialty Professional Associations review.

    Minimum Qualifications


  • Earned doctorate in educational administration/leadership or a related field (or ABD with completion by August 2025)

  • Two years of experience as a principal in PK-22 education

  • Illinois PEL licensure for principal leadership, or equivalent out-of-state licensure with ability to earn Illinois licensure by August 2024

  • Completion of Illinois training for initial qualification to evaluate certificated educators (Illinois Administrator Academy #2001) by August 2024

  • Ability and related experiences to teach on-campus, off-campus, and online courses in:
  • Educational administration/leadership sequence for aspiring principals

  • Principal internships (three semesters)

  • Record of experience regarding culturally responsive teaching and leadership, working with diverse populations, and leading for social justice

  • Proven commitment to school improvement, progress, and innovation

  • Strong communication and technology skills



  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Illinois licensure in another area (i.e., Superintendent, Elementary, Middle Grades, Secondary, or Special Education), or equivalent out-of-state licensure with ability to earn Illinois licensure by August 2024

  • Completion of Illinois training to evaluate principals (Illinois Administrator Academy #2000) by August 2024

  • Prior experience in higher education
