The successful candidate will be hired at the most appropriate level of Senior University Accountant level I through IV, based on education and experience.
This position is within the Cash Management & Banking team of the Florida State University Controller's Office. The senior university accountant is responsible for performing professional accounting work and analysis, research, and reporting functions for the maintenance and control of the university's cash and investment position, with a focus on daily cash position execution, earnings reporting and allocation, and internal loan oversight.
Completes daily analysis and forecasting of the university's cash needs and manages the university's investment accounts. Analyzes cash requirements at the university and fund level, applying knowledge of target cash balance requirements. Prepares and enters daily investment journals.
Allocates and processes monthly investment earnings based upon average daily cash balances and average daily investment balances. Researches and resolves inquiries from university department representatives related to monthly investment allocations procedures.
Maintains payment and amortization schedules for all bonds and internal or external loans. Creates invoices, posts journal transfers and allocates earnings from loans to the university's auxiliary accounts. Corresponds with university auxiliary departments to coordinate cash transfers to fund debt service payments. Enters payments in the university's financial system and ensures disbursements are completed prior to service payment deadlines.
Responsible for a variety of banking transaction activity. Reviews positive pay exceptions to detect fraud or release funds for valid transactions timely. Reviews and accurately processes foreign and domestic wire transfers, reviewing for appropriate approvals. Analyzes requests to establish customers to pay the university via ACH or wire, ensuring proper security practices are utilized.
Prepares periodic reports on investments, loans, and debt service-related activity for senior management. May serve as a backup to other areas within the Cash Management & Banking section to support operational continuity. Assists senior management with projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Master's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field and two years experience or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field and four years relevant experience or a combination of post-high school, relevant education and accounting, finance, or similar experience equal to eight years.

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to utilize problem solving skills.
Experience compiling, reviewing, and reconciling data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Knowledge of and the ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience with financial enterprise resource planning systems (such as PeopleSoft/OMNI or comparable systems) or other related accounting systems and practices.
Experience utilizing effective customer service skills and working effectively in a team setting.
Experience documenting and improving business processes and utilizing problem solving skills.
