Position Summary

Salary- low $55,934 - avg $67,651 - high $84,647 - annually, depending on experience. MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time; eligible to work a hybrid remote schedule (up to 2 days remote, 3 days in office) after a successful probationary period or at supervisor's discretion.


This position includes the design, cost estimating, coordination, review and production (or oversight) of construction and presentation documents for small to medium scale site development and landscape projects, and assistance on large scale projects with direction from lead Landscape Architect. Construction inspection duties are included to assure compliance with documents in support of maintenance operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to be innovative and communicate well in a team environment. Position may have project manager duties, including providing support and coordination to diverse groups of stakeholders throughout the project delivery process, which can include university administration, campus clients, faculty representatives, facility managers, technicians, professional consultants, as well as off-campus partners.

This position will provide landscape architecture design execution by applying diverse principles and practices and to make independent decisions consistent with large academic institutions. Duties associated with this position may involve accessing construction areas, including by hatchways, ramps, and similar means; outdoor work on a variety of floor and ground surfaces including climbing and entry into confined spaces.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Landscape Architecture; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in project management, landscape design and construction and horticulture; experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and computer-aided drafting software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires a valid operator's license, and the ability to operate University Vehicles (must meet MSU Safe Driving Standards).

Desired Qualifications

Over five years experience and registered Landscape Architect in the State of Michigan. Experience as an Owner's Representative or Landscape Architect in a team environment for planning, design and construction projects in a large institutional or municipal setting is desired. Ability to speak publicly.

A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.
