Job Description:

O.E. DuRant, Inc, a subsidiary of Moran Towing Corporation, has a new opportunity available in the position of Warehouse Associate. This full-time, hourly, non-exempt position sits in O.E. DuRant, Inc.'s Charleston office location, and reports to the General Manager.

Position Summary

The Warehouse Associate is responsible for all aspects of the warehouse including receiving, storage, palletizing, and loading, with full adherence to workplace and food safety. This position organizes and delivers orders to the 100% satisfaction of the customer within the allotted time constraints. In conjunction with the General Manager, this position helps ensure that standard safety and operating procedures are strictly adhered to in accordance with the O.E. DuRant, Inc. ("Company") Safety Management System.

The Warehouse Associate assists the General Manager to monitor equipment and recommend strategic processes for continuous process improvement. This position is responsible for smooth transitions between each order being fulfilled, ready for transport, and loaded according to First In, First Out (FIFO) delivery, while maintaining stock management and the highest workplace cleanliness standards.

Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:


  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following Company policies and procedures.

  • Follows instructions on how to receive, store, palletize, load, and transport food products, adhering to industry guidelines referenced from Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and National Food Service Management Institute (NFSMI).

  • Safely uses proper lifting techniques to ensure injury-free operation.

  • Receives products and compares them to the delivery invoice or receipt to ensure that proper quantities and items have been received.

  • Checks all products for quality, condition, freshness, and expiration upon receipt and during order fulfilment.

  • Labels all products with inventory control numbers and arranges to timely store food at appropriate temperatures per manufacturers' instructions.

  • Pulls product from inventory and from outside vendors to correlate with pick tickets and completes sales orders to provide outstanding customer satisfaction.

  • Reports daily maintenance, including temperature logs for coolers/freezers along with forklift recording and safety checks.

  • Controls inventory, including stock rotation according to the Company's standard FIFO policy, along with frequent quality and freshness checks.

  • Counts inventory frequently and reports across all departments to promote Company-wide efficiency.

  • Identifies any issues in inventory or process functions and reports these in a timely manner.

  • Communicates with other warehouse employees and the General Manager for effective and efficient operations.

  • Operates a forklift safely according to Company policies.

  • Acts as a Company Safety Advocate by actively participating in the quality improvement process and motivating others.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to a strict FIFO policy.

  • Strong organizational and cleanliness skillsets to promote a safe work environment.

  • Valid Driver's License and safe driving record are required and must be maintained during employment. Incumbent must adhere to the requirements of the Company's Driver Safety Policy.

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ease with phone and in-person contacts.

  • Demonstrated ability to positively interact with customers and vendors.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Ability to be a positive member of a strong team environment.

  • Availability and willingness to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours, including the ability and willingness to work after-hours, occasional weekends, and holidays, and, if called in, during the night.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous experience in warehouse and/or grocery industry preferred, which may include experience in transportation, warehousing, rigging/lifting, and in a forklift operations environment.

  • Successful completion of forklift safety and operations training or demonstrated ability to successfully complete an OSHA-approved lift system safety course.

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willing to obtain after hire.

Physical Demands of this position include the ability to:


  • Hear and respond to verbal communications in noisy environments such as piers, docks, and warehouses with moving heavy equipment.

  • Withstand occasional exposure to heat, cold and or/humidity.

  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

  • Use a computer for typing and data entry with good finger dexterity.

  • Frequently reach with hands and arms.

  • Work safely and navigate in an industrial setting.

  • Speak, hear, and see (close vision and color vision).

  • Occasionally crouch or stoop.

  • Climb ladders.

  • Frequently lift and/or carry up to 75 lbs.
