As a Sr. Engineering Consultant on the Value Selling & Simulation Team (VSST), you will be responsible for the development and deployment of an extensive suite of software workflows in the Value Simulation Tool (VST) related to machine and technology selection, fleet and site optimization, and lifecycle cost analysis of these solutions.
VST software is used by Caterpillar field members, Caterpillar dealers, and customers around the world to support the selection of Caterpillar solution offerings of machines, technology, fleets, site optimization, and services growth offerings. This role collaborates closely with users, business partners, engineering teams, technical marketing experts, and the overall VSST staff. This position influences strategy and future direction of business decisions and requires extensive collaboration with product group engineering and technical marketing experts. The position offers exposure to global sales and marketing, dealer & customer interaction, and agile software development processes.
What You Will Do:
- Engineering Consultant has responsibility for the development and deployment of an extensive suite of software workflows in the Value Simulation Tool (VST) related to machine and technology selection, fleet and site optimization, and lifecycle cost analysis of these solutions
- Help define strategy of VST's extensive machine/technology/fleet/site optimization workflows, representing a significant portion of VST's functionality which continues to expand at a rapid pace.
- Document feedback from VST users, business partners, and admins. Lead business team discussions to transform user feedback into innovative and intuitive feature enhancement ideas.
- Drive product group ownership of engineering resource commitments, delivery of Cat technical data required to develop, deploy, maintain, and support user workflows.
- Drive global alignment, engagement, and commitment of product group engineering, and technical marketing experts.
- Prioritize enhancements based on user need and business impact
- Lead cross functional VSST / business partner discovery sessions for machine/technology/fleet/site optimization workflows. Co-lead engineering/performance and commercial teams through voice of business / software maintenance prioritization / tradeoff discussions.
- Define detailed functionality and acceptance criteria for workflow items, documented by project manager in Azure DevOps / GitHub. Collaborate with VSST's software team to design, develop and test enhancements.
- Complete feature enhancement testing within sprint release cadence to ensure software quality / ease of use.
- Collaborate with VSST's commercial team for deployment strategy and user support needs
- Degree requirement : Requires a 4-year college degree concentrated in engineering.
- Candidate must have progressive and extensive experience in the following skills :
- Data Gathering and Analysis: Proven experience in gathering user feedback and business partner insights to inform software workflow enhancements. Strong analytical skills to conduct lifecycle cost analysis and fleet insight optimization.
- Decision Making & Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to prioritize software enhancements based on user needs and business impact. Critical thinking skills to influence strategy and future business decisions.
- Strategic Thinking: Experience in defining and implementing strategies for machine technology selection, fleet optimization, and site performance.
- Deep expertise in product engineering experience
- Strong Microsoft Excel / data management skills

Base salary for this ranges from $123,480 to $185,280 . Actual salary will be based on experience. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:
