Job Description:

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under general supervision, develops and upgrades manufacturing processes to improve quality, cost, delivery, and safety performance.  Also responsible to define and develop NPI capital equipment, tooling, and workflow processes to support new program introduction.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  1. Develop manufacturing process plans for NPI launches for all new programs.

  2. Analyze and plan workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency and effective ergonomic and safety.

  3. Develop Operational Method sheets and work instructions.  Maintain OM sheets to current ECN levels.

  4. Confer with vendors to communicate requirements and arrange for procurement of capital equipment or tools. Prepares documentation for purchase and justification.

  5. Resolve product and process problems.  Facilitate improvements to tooling, gauging, and purchased materials and services to support quality and productivity objectives.

  6. Maintain accurate product standards.  Evaluate product performance and recommend and implement actions to improve gross margin performance.

  7. Evaluate and improve process flow and reliability of manufacturing systems through time studies and other Lean Six Sigma techniques.

  8. Identify and implement methods to increase equipment utilization.

  9. Conduct operator training related to process improvements.

  10. Understand and apply FMEA concepts where appropriate.

  11. Evaluate new capital equipment, tooling, and processes for application to existing methods.   Assist in the justification and implementation of new technology.

  12. Assist the planning and scheduling team with capacity planning.

  13. This position may be required to work additional hours on weekends.

  14. This role at the Star facility will serve as the designated backup to the Plant Manager.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor’s degree plus three to five years related experience and/or training in sheetmetal fabrication; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Modeling or 2D CAD experience preferred. Preferred experience in dynamic nesting, Sheetworks, and Dr. Abe software. Strong back ground in Process Development, Lean and problem solving tools and value stream mapping experience. Background in sheet metal fabrication and familiarity with quality/process capability tools (Cpk, GDT, etc).

The job is responsible for the development and improvement of manufacturing processes in support of specific goals for quality, cost, delivery and safety.   This position works independently with little supervision and without direct reports.
