Description

Puget Sound ESD seeks seeks two (2) School Safety and Threat Assessment Consultant to coordinate the ongoing functioning of comprehensive school safety systems, including a student threat assessment system that offers a multi-agency team approach consisting of a school-based screening team and a community-based student threat assessment team.

PSESD is one of nine regional educational agencies serving school districts and state approved charter and private schools in Washington. Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with school safety personnel and intervention specialists (e.g. law enforcement, mental health specialists, intervention and resource specialists, school counselors, etc.) for the purpose of managing situations and students of concern.
  • Convenes student threat assessment team meetings for the purpose of providing school districts with a written summary of findings, recommendations, assistance with action steps and follow-up.
  • Develops positive relationships with school district staff members, safety personnel, intervention specialists, community members, etc., for the purpose of gathering and conveying information.
  • Embodies the principles and practices that form our culture and commitment to becoming an Antiracist Multicultural Organization for the purpose of meeting the Agency’s End: Success for Each Child and Eliminating the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference documenting activities and conveying information.
  • May oversee the work of other staff for the purpose of ensuring program objectives are met within budget.
  • Monitors assigned program activities for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring compliance with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a variety of manual and electronic materials (e.g. calendars/schedules, attendance data, weekly programs and objectives, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or written documentation.
  • Provides consultation and training to school site and community teams regarding topics related to comprehensive safety, school climate, crisis response, suicide prevention/intervention, threats of violence, violence, and management of situations and students of concern for the purpose of supporting effective systems for response staff, parents, students, and community members on threat management, safety planning, intervention and resources available.
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in job-related field (High School Diploma with increasing levels of job-related experience may substitute for Associate's degree)
  • Professional experience working in schools, community organizing, program coordination or community-based programs involving youth, drug/alcohol, tobacco abuse, or other related community health prevention or counseling
  • Knowledge and professional experience with school safety efforts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience with behavioral health practices (substance abuse and/or mental health)
  • Experience with community mobilization 
  • Experience working in a school-based program with emphasis on:  violence prevention and/or early intervention, alcohol, tobacco and/or other drug prevention and early intervention, and/or mental health
