Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Student Success, the Assistant Director, Student Accessibility Services is responsible to support the Director with oversight of equal opportunity and specific accommodations for identified students with disabilities across campus. This role is critical to the effective functioning of the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) office.

Student Assistance
Work with students to assess their needs for support through SAS and identify other campus resources to assist them, if necessary.

Meet with new students and their families to assist them with making a successful transition to college life, explain the college accommodation process, and assist them in determining what support services they might need.

Assist the Director in the management and administration of office practices and office technology including electronic records and the SAS Student Records database, electronically delivered adapted books and class notes, online delivery of accommodation letters, management of the SAS Testing Center, and related duties.

Read, evaluate and record verification of disability documents.

Identify necessary accommodations in the academic, residential, co-curricular and physical environments at RWU in collaboration with the students.

Assist SAS students with time management strategies, study skills, test preparation, and other self-empowerment strategies, as required.

Provide referrals for SAS students to other campus departments and off-campus providers, as needed.

Work with prospective students and families to provide information on SAS services.

Participate in recruitment efforts and enrollment events such as Open Houses, Accepted Student Days and other yield events by fielding inquiries and meeting with interested students/families.

Serve as SAS line of contact for parents/families, faculty, staff and student walk-ins.

Oversee communication to SAS students throughout the year, both internally and in coordination with CSAS efforts.

Coordinate hiring and scheduling for auxiliary services (e.g. notetakers, CART recorders, Sign Language interpreters, etc.).

Administrative and Support Services
Oversee the management of the SAS Testing Center including efficient test delivery , maintaining integrity of testing environment, and coordinating overflow locations when necessary.

Assist in the development of SAS policies and procedures.

Maintain the SAS website, providing access to information for prospective and current students.

Participate in coordinating student success initiatives for the student population.

Reporting and Technology Assistance
Assess current and emerging adaptive technologies and recommend cost efficient adaptive technology solutions appropriate to each student's needs.

Train users on adaptive technology usage, including coordinating hardware and software support with other University constituents, as needed.

Research and report on current best practices in disability support services in higher education.

Assist the Director in evaluation of support services provided by SAS.

Collaborate with the Director on the annual Jeremy Warnick Scholarship Award and related activities.

Assist the Director with external funding initiatives such as grant writing, alumni-targeted giving campaigns, donor-based capital and equipment improvements, etc., as needed.

Additional Functions
Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy protocols as required by FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and ADAAA (American's with Disabilities Act Amendments Act).



Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, Rehabilitation, Student Affairs, or a related field.

Demonstrated understanding of disability issues and laws for higher education.

Demonstrated commitment to working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting to help them reach their educational and personal goals.

Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and accuracy when working with student database records and other records.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, family members, visitors, groups and organizations, both internal and external to the University.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and ability to work with a broad array of students with wide-ranging needs.

Ability to effectively and sensitively communicate with faculty, administrators and visitors regarding complicated and sensitive issues.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.

Evidence of commitment to education and student success.

Available to work occasional nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Psychology, Education, Counseling, Rehabilitation, Student Affairs or a related field.

Experience with adaptive technologies to enhance students' learning in a higher education setting.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
