Job Summary:



Reporting to the Head of North America Treaty Casualty, the candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of Treaty Casualty reinsurance business that includes General Liability, Excess/Umbrella Liability, Management/Professional Liability, Cyber Liability, Commercial Auto Liability and Workers' Compensation.


Candidate can be based in Warren, Stamford, NYC or Philadelphia while adhering to our hybrid work schedule, 3 days onsite and 2 remote.



Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:



  • Originating and underwriting Casualty treaty business in compliance with the appropriate guidelines while conforming to best practices and focusing on efficiency in approach;


  • Developing and maintaining relationships with national and regional reinsurance brokers and clients in coordination with senior management;


  • Drive strategy and portfolio management work including, performance, tiering, appetite, guidelines, etc.;


  • Prospecting, cultivating and producing new business;


  • Track industry and market developments and raise these for strategic discussions with clients;


  • Scheduling, organizing and conducting underwriting audits for both new and existing accounts;


  • Maintaining an understanding of all current issues affecting the insurance and reinsurance industries as well as casualty and professional liability lines of business;


  • Participate in annual planning process and development of department goals;


  • Play a role in developing/mentoring team's junior underwriters regarding the Company's corporate mission, culture, performance goals, profitability, and technical underwriting.





Qualifications and Work Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is required;


  • ARe, CPCU, ACAS, FCAS or other industry designations are preferred;


  • A minimum of 10 years of treaty reinsurance experience in progressively advancing casualty roles underwriting or brokering;


  • A strong grasp of policy forms, contract wording, and pricing schemes. The candidate should also understand the role and impact of claims, actuarial, accounting, and finance in the underwriting process;


  • Excellent marketing skills are mandatory to develop and maintain relationships with reinsurance intermediaries and clients;


  • Preference for strong broker and insurer contacts, with excellent understanding of the U.S. Casualty/Professional Lines insurance and reinsurance marketplace;


  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and report writing skills and the ability to flourish in a collaborative team environment;


  • Ability to develop proficiency with company specific electronic filing and automated processing systems to analyze, document and manage business;


  • Be self-motivated and independent while maintaining underwriting discipline to achieve strategic objectives;


  • Ability to stay organized within a fast paced, team-oriented, and high intensity work environment with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks;


  • Ability to travel 30-35% primarily domestically.




For NYC Only: The base salary range for this position is $215,000 - $235,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
