POSITION OVERVIEW

The Safety Manager is a key leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs and initiatives within the construction materials company. This position provides strategic direction, leadership, and guidance to the safety team and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Develop and communicate a clear vision, mission, and strategic goals for the safety department in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures to promote a culture of safety excellence.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and safety risks in the workplace.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and controls to minimize workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs and workshops for employees at all levels, covering topics such as hazard recognition, safety procedures, and emergency response.
  • Ensure that all employees receive appropriate safety training and certifications as required by regulatory standards.
  • Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and contributing factors, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay abreast of federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards applicable to the construction industry.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, and other relevant safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and department managers to promote a culture of safety and accountability.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent preferred.
  • Extensive experience in safety management or related field, with progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices, particularly in the construction industry.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in safety management systems and software applications.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing to work weekends and overtime as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Most time is spent outdoors in a mostly open area environment. Outside assignments will require periods of work in all weather conditions, heat, cold, wet, or dry. May have exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel, exhaust, lubricants, solvents, etc. Work areas may have noise levels up to 90 dbs. Work areas require personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, high visibility vest or shirt, and hearing protection. All safety equipment will be provided by the company.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing and walking. Requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend as necessary. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 20 pounds. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, employees and managers. Effective conflict resolution abilities. Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Ability to read, write and do mathematics.
