Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWThe Production Group provides production and post-production support to producers within and outside of GBH. The OutPost is the post-production department within The Production Group that offers on-line and off-line editing, color-grading, audio mixing and duplication/file encoding services for clients across the PBS and commercial landscape.JOB OVERVIEWUnder the supervision of the Post-Production Manager and Senior Post-Production Manager for the OutPost, the Assistant Editor supports all aspects of post-production for the OutPost and their clients.  Managing a wide variety of simultaneous projects that require an experienced and savvy technician who can prioritize and adapt to fast-changing situations.

This role is based in Boston, MA, and requires your on-site presence every Tuesday and Wednesday at our Brighton office. Additional in-office days may be required at the discretion of your manager.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary Assistant Editor for Frontline Online sessions

  • Create all on-screen type for programs going through the OutPost – Lower 3rds, credits, subtitles, digital packaging etc.

  • Coordinating and receiving media from producers – both in physical form and through internet delivery systems.

  • Support film teams in post-production by organizing media and projects, ingesting, grouping, syncing, assemblies as needed, and updating and supporting media and projects on Avid Nexis and Edit Share

  • Preparing media and sequences for editors

  • Create short edited sequences for programs, including web promos, etc.

  • Encoding outputs of sequences and delivering them through Sony Ci and other distribution systems

  • Archiving and managing media and projects in coordination with on and off-site teams

  • On-boarding producers, editors and assistant editors into GBH remote edit systems

  • Working with the Technology and OutPost teams: support remote workflows customized to the needs of each production and guide them through the OutPost and the GBH system

SKILL SET

  • A professional background demonstrating one's ability to work well under pressure, perform quickly, accurately and independently

  • Candidates for this position must have superior organizational and communication skills and exhibit excellent follow-through.

  • The candidate will have significant experience with the Avid editing platform as most editing work will be performed in Avid. Knowledge of Avid Nexis is desired. Knowledge of Adobe Suite is desired, especially experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects. Knowledge of Editshare storage systems is helpful. 

  • The ideal candidate will have worked through several productions from end to end and be open to different modes and models of production. Experience organizing and completing long-term archiving projects or media management projects is a significant plus.

  • Duties require schedule flexibility, including weekend and evening work.


  • Computer Hardware, Software, and other specialized equipment: Fluency with Avid editing systems,  Macintosh and Windows literacy, and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and FileMaker are required.


  • Technical/Other specialized Skills: Assistant editing organization and project management, media management, grouping, script syncing, and Avid troubleshooting.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a production/post-production environment.
