The Engineer II - Electrical is a position within FORTNA's Electrical Engineering team responsible for directing the design and documentation of electrical controls deliverables of FORTNA's Material Handling Systems. The ideal candidate has significant experience and background in Electrical Engineering / design and is experienced and/or capable of providing leadership and direction to the Electrical Engineering project team during project implementation. Leadership tasks shall be aligned with FORTNA's Integrated Design Methodology to ensure successful project implementation. This role requires design tasks direction utilizing standard design tools to provide high quality electrical designs in support of Clients' needs.
Responsibilities:
Leading medium scope projects through the detail design and implementation phase. This includes development of BOM generation, electrical control panel phasing plans, Electrical Engineering work plans, and design approval packages
Providing electrical system input to Project Engineer during design review meetings to ensure electrical requirements are understood
Supporting Project Engineer during transition from Detailed Design to Final Engineering
Reviewing and providing Electrical Engineering input to Description of Operation (DOO) & Functional Specification (FSD) documentation
Facilitating project meetings as required by project cadence:
Producing meeting agendas
Providing meeting minutes to team members
Providing Electrical Engineering input to MHS implementation plan
Developing Electrical Engineering work plan to ensure successful project milestone achievements
Assisting Project Engineer during Speeds & Feeds review
Leading Controls Layout review meetings with internal teams and Client. Supporting Project Engineer to achieve design acceptance
Leading and directing support resources during development of project deliverables and ensuring deliverables meet Drawing Quality Control (DQC) requirements, including:
Electrical device layout package
Control panel fabrication package
Electrical installation package
As Built documentation
Updating project team on the current status of project:
Compiling project status reports
Attending project update meetings
Compiling and communicating electrical Assumptions/Decisions/Risk/Actions (ADRA) items
Managing electrical scope utilizing DOO and FSD
Escalating risks to Project Engineer and Engineering team
Leading electrical prototype efforts for less complex solutions, including development of prototyping plan and communication of scope
Conducting site visits to assist with installation and commissioning support activities
Attending Client meetings as required
Supporting development of lessons learned document
Following and providing input for improvement of DQC process
Supporting generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Engineering Group
Constantly working to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest technology
Utilizing AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for drawings
Continuously working to solve Client needs
Proactively seeking work to maintain project utilization
Using current design practices for material handling systems
Adhering to all Fortna and department standards
Maintaining good design notes
Attending and/or performing company training as required
Being reliable; providing timely responses and consistent follow-up
Qualifications:
4-year engineering degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar engineering program) from an accredited college plus 3-5 years of relevant work experience
Conveyor control process experience (photoeyes, solenoids, variable frequency drive, line scanner, print and apply application)
Knowledge of and ability to work with and manage multiple suppliers
Ability to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performance
Advanced collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal communication)
Experience working with MS Project and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment for position
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Promis-e, or E-Plan for electrical design
Flexible and approachable
Ability to self-motivate
Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
Ability to travel domestically and internationally in support of our projects
Ability to perform essential functions of the job
Desired Qualifications:
Experience managing Engineering projects requiring collaboration between multiple Engineering work streams
Experience leading and directing Engineering support resources to achieve project milestones
UL, NEC, NFPA, OSHA design requirements
480VAC motor control panel design experience
Strong comprehension of Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet IP, network design and requirements
Strong leadership skills
The base salary range for this role is $73,900 to $110,800. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
