Tetra Tech is currently seeking a full-time, Geophysicist for our San Diego, CA operation.
This position entails working with a multi-disciplinary team on exciting environmental and engineering projects, including but not limited to, innovative geophysical and remote sensing surveys with land, airborne (including drones), and marine platforms and various sensor systems.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Conducting electromagnetic (EM) digital geophysical mapping (DGM) and ground penetrating radar (GPR) geophysical surveys
• Geophysical data processing using Seequent Oasis montaj software, GeoTools, Surfer, ArcGIS, and EM Power.
• Conducting and implementing geophysical surveys electrical resistivity, induced polarization, gravity, seismic, magnetic, and electromagnetic surveys; geophysical data acquisition, data processing, modeling and analysis.
Additional responsibilities may include
• Conducting environmental site assessments and investigations
• Completing soil borings and well installation on environmental projects, geologic logging, collection of soil, groundwater or soil vapor samples
• Analytical data evaluation and technical report writing.
Qualifications
Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience. You will also have / be:
• Strong background in field sampling programs from the planning through the execution and report development phases.
• Experience with federal projects and regulatory agencies a plus.
• Experience in authoring CERCLA environmental documents.
In addition, you must be able to access Department of Defense (DoD) sites, which requires passing a background check.
Degree / Certifications
• BS in geophysics, geology, hydrogeology, or environmental engineering with an emphasis on geophysics.
• MS degree preferred.
• Professional geophysicist (PGp) or professional geologist (PG) registration preferred
• Part 107 remote pilot certification preferred
• Current OSHA 40-hour certification preferred.
Work Environment
This position requires roughly 30% travel. You must be able to:
• Travel 2-3 weeks at a time as needed to support field project needs. All work-related travel is reimbursable.
• Walk around project sites for a full day if required, including on uneven terrain, in remote locations.
• Work outside in all weather conditions and seasons, both hot and cold, and sometimes harsh conditions.
• Wear a respirator and be medically cleared to wear one.
• Meet physical demands of hazardous waste site work.
• Lift and carry field sampling and other equipment roughly 35lbs.
• Travel and work on weekends and evenings as needed.
• Drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
The Salary Range for this position is $85,000 to $90,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
