How You'll Make a Difference

Navigate the waters of a growing and resilient industry. Woodard & Curran is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Leader (BDL) to lead our public sector business development team. You will identify growth opportunities in alignment with executing the company's vision and strategic plan while leading and partnering in decision-making that sustains organizational change. You will leverage current partnerships and develop new strategic relationships, ensuring the achievement of sales, market position, and client satisfaction goals. This is a Business Development leadership position that requires expertise in sales within the water and environmental markets in the public sector. In doing so, you will support the execution of a market-led approach based on leveraging the full power of Woodard & Curran talent to create value for our clients. You will promote organizational values and commitment to the development of employees as leaders throughout Woodard & Curran.

What You Will Be Doing at Woodard & Curran-Public Sector Northeast & Mid-Atlantic Business Development Leader:


  • Oversee and cultivate strategic partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders in the public sector, including industry leaders, potential clients, and government entities, to drive business growth and enhance market position.

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic market and client plans that leverage the company's strengths and unique offerings in the public sector.

  • Oversee the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region, including the Water business development team.

  • Recommend and implement sales strategies and improvements based on market research, regulatory drivers, and competitor analyses, including developing discrete service offerings and market content in conjunction with Directors of Practice.

  • Achieve sales targets, revenue growth, and profitability goals for the public sector through effective leadership and management of the business development team.

  • Collaborate across the organization and manage budgets to achieve a targeted cost of sales.

  • Stay updated on market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes affecting the public sector water and environmental landscape to identify new business opportunities and guide decision-making.

  • Manage cross-selling strategies across practices and business units where appropriate.

  • Champion the company's commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility, integrating ESG principles into business development strategies and client engagements.

  • Partner with the Practices to develop strategies for emerging service offerings, innovation, geographic growth, R&D, alternative business arrangements, and potential mergers and acquisitions.

Collaboration:


  • Collaborate with leadership to align business development efforts with the company's overall vision, goals, and growth strategies.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and client-centricity within the business development team to deliver exceptional results and exceed client expectations.

  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management through disciplined planning and performance management on the progress, performance, and outcomes of business development initiatives in the public sector.

  • Collaborate with Marketing Leadership to achieve branding, positioning, and process consistency goals. Develop marketing materials and campaigns that highlight our environmental and water expertise and offerings. Leverage opportunity assessments to inform target strategies.

  • The BDL will partner/collaborate with the Water and Environment Business Leaders and Practice teams to achieve the annual business plan and to drive results across Consulting.

Leadership:


  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy for public sector clients aligned with the company's objectives and vision.

  • Develop and manage a business development team capable of carrying out needed sales and client service initiatives, including the development of client management plans, large account strategies, and identification of future Client Managers.

  • Lead recruiting and career development efforts to ensure the growth of the business development team.

What You Will Need to Succeed:


  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience leading teams to achieve market success and company business development goals.

  • Demonstrated leadership within the consulting industry, specifically in client development and sales systems related to water and environmental services in the public sector.

  • Proven success in developing and executing client growth strategies.

  • A client service mindset and ability to build a deep understanding of client needs and decision-making structures.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence internally and externally

  • Disciplined management approach and mindset - the ability to clearly articulate and communicate desired outcomes; prioritize and direct actions; create and implement a strong process and systems infrastructure

$180,000 - $250,000 a year

This role has the option for remote work, and the anticipated pay range is flexible, depending on factors such as the employee's primary work location, skills, experience, and education. The following examples illustrate how the pay range for the same role can vary based on different locations.

Portland, ME: $190,000 - 200,000

Pittsburgh, PA: $200,000 - $210,000

Rye Brook, NY: $210,000 - $250,000

This position's anticipated pay range is provided above; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials recognize and reflect cost of labor differences between geographic markets.
