Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Corporate support helps create, implement, and evaluate corporate support fundraising activities for Illinois Public Media (IPM) and is primarily responsible for acquiring and stewarding gifts from local and regional businesses. This position works closely with IPM's Major Gifts Director and with general supervision from the Development Director. The Assistant Director of Corporate Support develops prospect lists, makes underwriting sales calls, books and stewards gifts from underwriters for broadcast, online, in print, events and other partnerships to help support programs and activities created by and distributed by Illinois Public Media.



Duties & Responsibilities -



Direct Fundraising


  • Research potential underwriting clients and develops prospects for general support as well as specific/special projects.

  • Contacts underwriting and sponsorship prospects to arrange appointments.

  • Meets with prospects, develops, and presents proposals and follows up to complete agreements.

  • Creates multi-layered underwriting packages that include radio, tv, digital and specialized programming, along with in-person events throughout the fiscal year.

  • Creates stewardship plans and activities for corporate supporters and renewal plans for annual corporate underwriters and sponsors.

Stewardship and Customer Service

  • Submits accurate orders to operations and traffic for execution on air or online.

  • Monitors announcements, online underwriting, Patterns underwriting for accuracy.

  • Works with operations and traffic staff to ensure underwriters receive proper acknowledgment.

  • Learns and stays updated with FCC and University guidelines regarding requirements for underwriting, sponsorship, and advertising.

  • Writes and edits copy as needed to make sure that it meets with FCC and University guidelines.

  • Monitors underwriting billing process, together with operations and business office staff to ensure proper client billing.

Events & Other Projects

  • Participate in on air fundraising activities, community outreach projects, and marketing activities on behalf of IPM and individual WILL stations.

  • Manages other corporate support projects as assigned.

  • Create and sell special community outreach projects to increase revenue goals, along with reaching a new non-traditional IPM audience.

  • Work with corporate support officer in prospecting new underwriters.

Participates in Development Team Activities and Professional Development.

  • Attend Development and other IPM team meetings.

  • Attend meetings of University of Illinois Advancement, all staff and training for corporate sponsorships.

  • Participate in University of Illinois Foundation training, and public media specific training with industry trade groups.

  • Provide data used in benchmarking and internal reports.


Required Qualifications -

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.

  • Two years' related experience.

  • Well-developed personal sales skills.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

  • Ability to project a mature, pleasant dynamic personality in all relationships with the public and with colleagues.

  • Self-motivation, energy, and a positive attitude.

  • General computer skills - including proficiency with Excel and Word.


Preferred Qualifications -

  • Broadcast or digital sales experience.

  • Familiarity with public media.

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment.

  • Familiarity with radio and television broadcasting.

  • Appreciation for non-profit mission.

  • Ability to manage general business processes.

  • Ability to drive and preferably to use your own car for business calls.


Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The budgeted salary for this position is $56,000 - $61,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.


Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
