As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

GBH is an audience-focused, multimedia news organization creating distinctive journalism informed by the communities we cover.

The mission of GBH Forum Network is to project and protect the public voice, to inform and inspire lifelong learners, and to foster deeper understanding of the culture, education, politics, science, and literature of our time.

The Forum Network is a public media service funded by the Lowell Institute to document public speaking in the Boston region delivered by the world's foremost scholars, authors, artists, scientists, policymakers, and community leaders. Recordings are made available online to the public for free and are a resource of information and sourcing for GBH News. The Forum Network is committed to encouraging deeper understanding and civic engagement around the vital issues of our time.

JOB OVERVIEW

Co-ops will work for six-month terms on a full-time basis (including some evening hours) to support the Forum Network team with production planning, recordings, live streaming and digital publishing of public speaking events on the current issues of our time. This position supports the team’s work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver media production projects from initiation to final product. Co-op are also expected to suggest and develop new activities and strategies to increase the Forum Network’s reach to a younger audience.

The co-op’s unique perspective is welcome in the Forum Network team’s editorial planning and a co-op’s suggestions for content and social strategies will help grow the team’s reach. Successful candidates will have some experience and an interest in developing their skills as a multimedia producer able to record, edit, publish video content, hone camera and editing skills, as well as online communication and writing skills.

Other duties include cataloguing assets and media management, curation of assets on the Forum Network website and in social media platforms, and supporting external partnerships.

This role is based in Boston, MA, and requires your on-site presence every Tuesday and Wednesday at our Brighton office. Additional in-office days may be required at the discretion of your manager.  

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Participate in video field shoots and support digital distribution

  • Participate in hosting live streaming events

  • Suggest strategies and support execution on Forum Network’s website and social media workflows

  • Participate in team editorial planning and suggest new opportunities

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


  • Familiarity with the visual and audio elements for HD video.

  • Familiarity with video editing software

  • Solid writing and copy-editing skills

  • Knowledge of Photoshop and other illustration tools

  • Proficiency with social media platforms

  • Organization skills and time management

EDUCATION

Must be enrolled in a formal co-op program while obtaining a higher education degree.
