Job Summary



This is an opportunity for a seasoned communications leader to manage internal and external executive communications for the 8 deans in the Office of the Dean at the Kelley School of Business.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Manages executive communications in the Office of the Dean, including speeches, presentations, announcements, partnership proposals, university reports, and award nominations.

  • Collaborates with Kelley's Office of Marketing and Communications to create messaging on behalf of the deans that supports the Kelley brand for publications, newsletters, marketing materials, press releases, blog posts, and website content.

  • Supports Kelley's Office of Development and Engagement with messaging for alumni and donors.

  • Communicates with faculty chairs and directors of degree programs and with auxiliary executive directors to stay up to date on new initiatives and metrics to report in presentations and stakeholder updates.

  • Works with media managers in preparing quotes for news releases and fact sheets for interviews.

  • Assists in management of crisis communications.

  • Manages internal communications to faculty and staff, including announcements of staff changes, successes, and program initiatives.

  • Produces newsletter for Kelley Bloomington professional and support staff to inform, engage, and celebrate successes.

  • Assists in compiling and writing 6-year AACSB accreditation review; liaises with AACSB representative, prepares application, collects documentation, and prepares report.

  • Serves as liaison on special projects between the Office of the Dean and the Office of Marketing and Communications.

  • Coordinates communications with the Vice Dean in Indianapolis.

  • Performs other related duties as needed.

General Responsibilities


  • Independently creates basic and complex communications for print and e-distribution on behalf of department or large multi-faceted department and in support of departmental goals and objectives; communications may be interdepartmental; staff, faculty, or student-focused; or external.

  • Responds to inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.

  • Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and creates communications coverage for relevant initiatives, events, and programs.

  • Prepares communications timelines and shares progress of communications toward relevant deadlines with manager, team members, and other relevant constituents.

  • Regularly monitors relevant social media and news sites; researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty.

  • Utilizes various communications software programs and delivers communications in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.

  • Monitors industry trends and best practices and makes process and operational recommendations to manager.

  • May provide guidance to lower-level Communications Generalists.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 5 years in relevant field


Preferred



  • Experience working in close collaboration with creative and content teams

  • Experience working with executive team

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
