The Software Systems Engineer role designs, delivers, and supports equipment solutions used in the development and manufacturing of innovative electronic medical products, responsible for the development and release of industrial automation solutions supporting new product lines. Part of a team that work cross functionally to select and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment in a design for manufacturing environment intended to proof processing principles and supports high volume scalability toward high volume needs and implement efficient systems that integrate workers, machines, materials, and information. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in software development process and integration with automation equipment and infrastructure.

  • Provide technical expertise in the integration of industrial automation systems to MES and engineering data collection systems (transactional, parametric, analytics).

  • Applications development using an object-oriented language (i.e. C#, Python, C++), including Windows-based applications, web services, operating systems, and Internet-related tools.

  • Database expertise using relational databases, preferably SQL Server

  • Responsible for designing, developing, evaluating, or modifying software programs.

  • Analyze existing programs and/or formulate logic for new systems.

  • Develop system design documentation, perform coding, and test/debug programs.

  • Create ad hoc or bolt-on programs for integrations or functional business teams as needed.

  • Develop conversion and system implementation plans.

  • Prepare and obtain approval of system and programming documentation.

  • Recommend changes in development, maintenance, and system standards.

  • Train users in system enhancements and modifications.

  • Provide patch and software upgrades to existing systems as required.

  • Correct program errors, prepare operating instructions, compile documentation for program support.

  • Analyze system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.

  • Works closely with functional users to enhance and maintain programs.

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, coaching and training.

  • Requires managing major or moderately complex automation projects, involving delegation of work, review of work products and acting as a team leader as appropriate.

  • Travel up to 75% domestic and international.


Must Have: Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advance degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.


Nice to Have

  • Bachelor degree in Computer, Software or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

  • Experience with Software Development Life Cycle, from feasibility, design, coding, documentation, through training and deployment.

  • Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or electronic industry

  • Experience working with external Automation and Tooling vendors providing them User Requirements, Statement of Work, and managing them through completion.

  • Experience with Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Experience with vision system design and integration

  • Experience with Robots, Pick-and-Place systems, servo controllers and motion control applications.

  • Knowledge on 6-Sigma principles and methodology

  • Experience in a regulated environment with 21CFR Part 11

  • Network design and debug

  • Proven communication, project management and analytical skills required.

  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, team player
