About the job

The Vice President of Project Development is responsible for developing commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects (Behind the Meter and Community Solar). This position will also take the lead on responses to public and private solar RFPs. The Director of Project Development will utilize their knowledge on Federal and State Solar Policy, the solar project lifecycle, solar industry, financial benefits of a solar project, and Pfister's internal engineering, estimating, & pre-construction team, to prepare a system design, cost estimate, cash flow analysis, finance options, and proposal for the customer and manage the development of the project from initial contact through contracting. This individual will manage all aspects of project development and ensure that we are hitting milestones effectively and efficiently, including proposal communication with the customer, finance partner communication, contracting documents, feasibility studies, interconnection applications, program applications, discretionary permitting, etc.

Strong analytical skills, organization, and multi-faceted communication strategies are required for this position as well as a thorough understanding of distributed generation solar, energy storage, and EV product offerings.

This person will manage a team of 1-2 Project Developers to start, with the intent of growing this team over the next 12-24 months.

You will understand and manage the following aspects of developing a Commercial Solar Project:

  • Electric bill analysis - analyze the customer's current electrical utilization and spending.
  • Evaluating a commercial site to optimize utilization of the roof and property.
  • Review available utility capacity in the area.
  • Understand and be able to apply all available and relevant state and federal renewable energy incentives and other financial benefits and manage the cash flow analysis for the project.
  • Understand and navigate the project into the optimal solar program strategy (Behind the meter, community solar, etc.) and financing alternatives based on the customer's goals.
  • Work with the estimating and engineering teams to create an optimal design and cost estimate.
  • Work with Pfister Energy's financing partners to develop financing rates including PPA rates, lease rates, etc.
  • Create sales proposals, cash flow analysis, reports, and presentations for current and prospective customers that illustrate the financial benefit of installing an onsite solar array.
  • Understand and navigate feasibility of the solar project by managing the Structural Engineering Analysis, Roof Feasibility Analysis, Permitting Approvals, design iterations, etc.
  • Understand and manage contractual matters including Development Agreements, Teaming Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements ("PPAs"), Capital Purchase Agreements, LOIs, MIPAs, and Site Leases

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the market, of Pfister's products and value offerings - as well as all available commercial solar products, and competitor's offerings.
  • Manage the RFP process and response for public and private projects.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested.

Qualifications/Required Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or Energy related field
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in Solar Project Development, with a strong preference for experience with Distributed Generation Solar and Commercial and Industrial Projects
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, CRM software)
