Job Description:

Under the direction of and reports to the Product Engineering Manager. Manage all quoting activities for MTI's iron foundry. including tracking, organization, plate/die layouts, pattern/tool shop quoting, and the assembly of the quote for the MTI Sales Group. Work directly with product engineers, pattern/tool shops, foundries, die cast facilities, and MTI Sales Group, to provide accurate quotes in an efficient manner. Be the gate keeper for product master prints and customer specifications.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to TS-16949 procedures relevant to Product Engineering.
  • Manage internal systems that control a variety of customer information including master drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Utilize 2D/3D CAD to layout products for quoting.
  • Support Magma simulation activity.
  • Support 3D modeling and 2D drawing creating for casting and plate layout designs.
  • Use 3D CAD to model parts for determining casting and core weights.
  • Review quoted product to ensure product to process fit.
  • Develop core design and get internal/external core quotes.
  • Work with Product Engineering, MTI Sales Group, and Process Engineers on accurate costing information.
  • Work directly with pattern/tool shops on quoting tooling equipment.
  • Enter routings and core costs into B&L to determine cost estimate.
  • Organize/manage all quoting activities and determine review specifications, tolerancing, cast weight, tracking, plate layouts, quote sheets and include pattern shop quotes.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
  • Knowledge of iron casting/tooling processes and practices (DISA preferred, green sand mold castings preferred) and die cast aluminum casting/die processes and practices.
  • Knowledge of cast iron properties (gray and ductile iron preferred) and aluminum properties.
  • Knowledge of other molding/casting process (die cast, shell mold, cope & drag, etc.) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of iron and aluminum casting defects and their causes.
  • Aptitude in reading/visualizing 2D prints.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Capacity to quickly analyze, compare, and interpret detailed information.
  • Good time management skills. Handle multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of company products, competitor products, and supplier capability.

Working Conditions

The Cost Estimator will reside in the office, however, will be in the plant occasionally. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Associate degree in CAD/ Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Approximately 1-2 years of iron foundry or aluminum die casting experience.
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD packages (AutoCAD, Pro-E).
  • Possess skills in word processing and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in green sand foundry or aluminum die casting preferred.
