We are currently hiring an Optical Manufacturing Supervisor - 2nd Shift

Location: Hoya Vision - St. Louis, MO (Columbia, IL)

Hours: 2nd shift from 4:00pm to 12:30am (training will be on 1st shift for approx. 4 - 6 weeks)

What you'll do:
  • Oversee all employees and production within the Lab placing an emphasis on productivity, quality, and effectively preparing for growth.
  • Monitor, schedule, and maintain production activities by coordinating employees, equipment, and customer demand.
  • Plan and delegate daily assignment to employees to ensure on-time product delivery.
  • Work closely with employees to ensure proper training and cross-training is provided to employees on all processes and equipment, and ensure standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Ensure procedures that are in place are being followed for production efficiency, safety, and compliance with company and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintenance of all equipment.
  • Monitors production and quality goals and acts when improvement is needed.
  • Responsible for running production and breakage reports and meeting with team leaders to discuss.
  • Evaluate workflow processes, then recommend and implement procedural and system changes in order to deliver a high-quality product.
  • Monitor performance of direct reports and provide prompt and objective coaching in accomplishing goals and in job performance. Write and conduct performance reviews, reward and discipline employees.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring process for open positions within the department to ensure the most qualified candidates are selected; training once hired.
  • Monitor attendance, vacation, and hours worked of employees.
  • Coordinates manpower requirements by increasing or decreasing personnel and approves overtime to meet changing conditions.
  • Troubleshoot breakage to determine the root cause and put measures in place in an effort to eliminate repeat inefficiency.
  • Responsible for running reports and backing up the DVI servers at the end of the day
  • Assist in any area when needed
  • Maintain and repair laboratory equipment as needed during the night shift.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 -7 years optical manufacturing experience
  • 2 - 4 years management experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing with a variety of people.
  • Knowledge of edging machines (ES-3 and MEI) including their design, repair, and maintenance.
  • Must be able to read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records / reports to determine production requirements and current estimates and outputs.
  • Must be able to plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Must be familiar with safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must be able to direct, coordinate, evaluate the activities of employees.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths/weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Must be able to work overtime.
