As a Drafter/Shop Drawing Specialist in the cabinet and custom millwork industry, you will play a crucial role in the design and production process, transforming conceptual ideas into precise and detailed shop drawings. This position requires a keen eye for detail, proficiency in CAD software, and the ability to manage the shop drawing process effectively. You will also collaborate with external drafters and cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of projects while adhering to industry standards.
Key responsibilities include:
Shop Drawing Creation: Produce detailed shop drawings based on project specifications, architectural drawings, and client requirements.
CAD Proficiency: Utilize CAD software to create accurate 2D and 3D drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company guidelines.
Shop Drawing Process Management: Oversee the shop drawing process from initial concept to final approval, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of drawings.
Collaboration with External Drafters: Work with external drafters to coordinate drawing standards, review submissions, and integrate their work into the overall project.
Material Specifications: Identify and specify materials and finishes in collaboration with the design and engineering teams.
Quality Assurance: Review and verify shop drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project specifications.
Standards Compliance: Ensure that all drawings comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), AIA (American Institute of Architects) guidelines, and other relevant industry standards.
Communication: Effectively communicate with internal teams, external drafters, and other stakeholders to address design queries, changes, and approvals.
Deadline Management: Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion of shop drawings.
Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends, new materials, and technologies to contribute ideas for process improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Associate degree or certification in drafting, engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Drafter/Shop Drawing Specialist in cabinet and custom millwork.
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Experience managing shop drawing processes and working with external drafters.
Knowledge of ADA, AIA guidelines, and other industry standards.
Knowledge of construction materials and methods is a plus.
