Position Title: QA Technician

Reports To: Quality Manager

Position Summary:

Federal Equipment Company has been a leading supplier for marine deck machinery and specialized weapons and material handling systems. Through the years the company has emerged into an internationally recognized organization with extensive expertise in marine design/engineering and manufacturing of critical shipboard systems. The company, now part of Fairbanks Morse Defense, is rapidly growing and in need of a QA Technician. This position ensures the control and accuracy of contract requirements flow-down to QC and final inspection for compliant deliverables.

FEC team members wear many hats and cover several areas of responsibility. This position is no different. This role will fulfill duties as described below, as well as technical and clerical duties that arise when bottlenecks present themselves. This position is one of proactivity, continuous improvement, and integrity for the overall quality of the company.

Essential Job Functions:


  • General office duties and experience with Windows, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, and Adobe Pro.
  • Responsible for collection of external documents/records in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance to all ISO 9001, customer, and internal requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits as required.
  • Perform receiving and final inspections as needed (experience interpreting engineering prints using GD&T preferred but will train). Conduct receiving inspections of serialized specialty products.
  • Perform pre-shipment contract review to validate records and products, creates and approves COCs.
  • Witness and audit FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) with GSI and CSI.
  • Create and maintain QA Plans IAW (In Accordance With) document control principles and contract amendments / revisions
  • Assist Quality Manager with RCCA as needed.
  • Perform all job duties in full accordance with FEC/FMD policies on information, assets protection, maintain password(s) confidential, protect critical business information. The code of conduct policies. Full responsibility and ownership (like all employees on site) for all audits (internal, Corporate, External, for Quality, H&S, Environment, etc.).
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years working in a Quality related field

  • 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a Defense-related industry

  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Experience in contract review is preferred

  • Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities for multiple projects or assignments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Occasionally lift and move materials up to 10 pounds.
  • Usual office working conditions with the mix of a production environment
  • Continuous and versatile learning ability
  • Ability to operate Windows based computers and working knowledge of typical office programs - i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Document management skill - attention to detail
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 a plus
  • Ability to work effectively in both independently and in a team environment
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Computer literacy skill
  • Reliable, self-starter
