Job Description:

Position reports to: VP of Lending

Purpose: The primary role of the Business Loan Portfolio Manager is to provide high level support to the VP of Lending and the Business Lending team by proactively managing the business loan portfolio.

Primary responsibilities will focus on four key areas:

1. Managing the business loan pipeline process

2. Managing the ongoing administration of the business loan portfolio, including post-closing follow-up, portfolio monitoring and reporting, and maintaining the Annual Review process

3. Managing the member resolution efforts for the business loan portfolio

4. Supporting consumer loan underwriting for business owners

The Business Loan Portfolio Manager will assume responsibility for the effective and professional completion of assigned business loan functions, serving Members and prospective Members promptly and professionally and working with other team members to grow the portfolio and cross sell other credit union products.

The Business Loan Portfolio Manager will also assist Relationship Managers and VP of Lending as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

1. Managing the business loan pipeline process:
  • Develop and manage a formal workflow process for all business loan requests to assure the timely and accurate underwriting, approval, closing, funding and ongoing credit risk monitoring of the business loan portfolio.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the credit union and its business loan CUSO.
  • Submit prepared credit memos and annual reviews to VP of Lending for approval or for recommendation to the Loan Committee or Board of Directors for final decisioning. Assure that all loan decisions are properly documented.
  • Assist Relationship Managers with the business loan closing process, as needed.
  • Work with Relationship Managers to resolve any post-closing exceptions.
  • Monitor loan portfolio to insure that deposit accounts required by loan approvals have been established and maintained.

2. Managing the ongoing administration of the business loan portfolio, including post-closing follow-up, portfolio monitoring and reporting, and maintaining the Annual Review process.
  • Monitor and track for timely completion of all required annual loan reviews, including collection and submission of all required documentation from borrower.
  • Assure that all risk ratings are accurate and current.
  • Obtain annual review memos from the business loan CUSO when required or prepare analysis of annual review results and submit to business loan officer or business loan committee.
  • Monitor business loans for compliance with all required loan covenants, including submission of annual financial information. Contact business loan members to obtain required information. Promptly report any issues or identified problems to management. Obtain waiver approval when appropriate from proper approval authorities.
  • Assist in the processing of loan advances on business loans and lines of credit.
  • Conduct or order annual property reviews/inspections, as required by policy.
  • Process and monitor all requested loan modifications within proper approval authorities and in accordance with policy requirements.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly portfolio reports for management and the Board of Directors.

3. Managing the member resolution efforts for the business loan portfolio.
  • Assist in the collection of delinquent business loan accounts.
  • Closely communicate and escalate as needed all critical issue items and establishing an acceptable action plan to address identified concerns.
  • Review delinquency reports and assist with payment collection.
  • Work with credit union counsel to coordinate legal action, if needed.
  • Regularly report on resolution efforts to loan participants, management and Board of Directors.

4. Supporting consumer loan underwriting for business owners.
  • Work with Loan Officers and Members to obtain all necessary information to assess the credit risk of the business owner.
  • Prepare cash flow analysis for consumer loan requests to business owners for review and approval by Loan Officer, Loan Committee or Board of Directors, as required by policy.

Experience & Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial lending, including documentation and follow-up.
  • 3-4 years experience in commercial lending.
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements as well as tax returns.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills related to commercial lending/underwriting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
