Montana Wildlife Federation Position Description Development Associate

Essential Function


The Development Associate (DA) serves a mission-critical role within the organization and supports all MWF fundraising efforts. The DA is responsible for implementing and managing donor-relationship activities, from setting up call time and direct mail processes, to shepherding planned giving, assisting with grant writing and reporting, and supporting the Board and staff in all aspects of development operations.

Organizational Relationship

The Development Associate reports to the Executive Director (ED) or a designee.


Duties/Responsibilities

Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of individual and in-kind contributors.
Implement and manage fundraising strategies and activities using databases such as Bloomerang and EveryAction.
Assist the ED, staff, and especially the Board with select donor relationships.
Conduct fundraising calls, direct mail, online appeals, event logistics, acknowledgments and other activities at the direction of the ED.
Assist ED and Accountant with the preparation of financial statements and registrations.
Assist MWF as needed with operational functions.
Participate in relevant training and meet annual performance goals.


Scope and Limits of Authority


MWF policies are created through policy resolutions adopted at MWF's Annual Meeting, through Where We Stand Statements adopted by the Board, and by the board in the absence of issue resolutions and Where We Stand statements.
The Development Associate shall be familiar with these policy positions.
The Development Associate shall serve as the staff lead for the MWF Development Committee, which includes working with the Board and ED to develop a quarterly agenda and drive the implementation of agreed-upon activities.

Mental/Physical Effort and Working Conditions


Ability to succeed in a multiple-task work environment, work independently with minimal supervision, cooperate with colleagues to set priorities, and follow through to completion, with exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Competent in computer use, familiar with Google Suite applications, and comfortable using and setting up Google Meet calls.
Though MWF operates in a hybrid work arrangement where employees sometimes work together in a physical office and sometimes remotely, the DA is expected to be in the Missoula office daily, unless prior authorization from the Executive Director is granted.
Travel is required for this position and will vary from month to month. In addition to Missoula, MWF also maintains offices in Helena and Bozeman. Sometimes, required meetings are held in the evenings or weekends.

Qualifications


Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Organized, detail-oriented, possessing a builders mentality and strong work ethic.
Minimum of Bachelor's degree is preferred
Some combination of experience in outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, guiding, floating, or wildlife photography, is essential to success in this position.

Salary


The salary range for this full-time (40 hours a week) exempt staff position is $50,000 to $60,000, depending on qualifications and experience. MWF offers its staff generous medical, dental, retirement, vacation, and quality-of-life benefits.
