Our Brownfields & Community Revitalization Practice provides integrated services to assist communities throughout the country build successful programs to achieve their brownfield redevelopment and community revitalization goals. Our network of funding and grant writing specialists has assisted a wide range of local/regional/tribal agencies and community-based organizations with over 100 EPA Brownfield and Environmental Justice (EJ) Grants (as well as funding from other federal and state programs). We develop strategies to finance and eliminate funding gaps in support of all types of community revitalization and capital improvement projects. Once funding is secured, we serve as our client's trusted partner for grant management and reporting, regulatory compliance, community outreach and public engagement, and executing Phase I/II ESA and cleanup/reuse planning activities. Our work has led to award-winning projects, and our staff has established long-term relationships with some of the most successful programs in communities across the country.



A DAY IN THE LIFE



Our Brownfields & Community Revitalization Practice: Project Scientist (Environmental Professional) role is a REMOTE position open to candidates throughout the Western U.S., with preference given to candidates who reside in and/or have significant experience in executing projects in Washington and/or Alaska.



As a key member of the Montrose Environmental Solutions team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:


  • Planning, executing, and/or overseeing Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remediation, and/or site-specific reuse and/or area-wide planning/design activities.


  • Assisting with project fieldwork, including site reconnaissance, brownfield inventories, and soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water and other media sampling including maintenance of monitoring equipment at various locations.


  • Collecting field data in an organized and concise manner, consistent with corporate and client standard operating procedures and work plans.


  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Montrose and client safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.


  • Occasional supervision of subcontractors in the field.




  • Consult with senior staff to prepare work plans and technical reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations.


  • Exercises judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria


  • Responsible for project budget and hours and utilizes time effectively to complete tasks within the assigned timeframe(s).


  • Communicates to leadership when issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget.




  • Assisting with project management/grant administration for multiple Brownfield & Environmental Justice (EJ) grant-funded projects throughout the western U.S.


  • Grant application support, including assisting senior grant writers with preparing and submitting grant applications for brownfields, EJ, and related projects.


  • Additional duties as may be assigned.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS



To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, or an associated science or a combination of education and work experience.


  • Minimum 6 years of experience planning, executing, and/or overseeing Phase I/II ESAs, remediation, and/or site-specific reuse and/or area-wide Planning activities.


  • Experience with multi-media sampling (i.e., soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water, sediment, etc.).


  • Experience with conducting remedial/construction oversight, confirmatory sampling, air monitoring, and documentation.


  • Capable of executing physical demands associated with typical environmental field duties as verified through an annual physical examination.


  • OSHA 1910.120 training preferred, but not mandatory - we will provide OSHA training to meet the requirements of the role.


  • Must have a basic understanding of geologic and environmental principles and their application to field circumstances and be able to collect and synthesize geologic and environmental data in the field.


  • Able to learn and deploy commonly used field equipment such as water quality meters, sampling equipment, and air monitoring equipment.


  • Able to learn and deploy GPS location equipment in the field to record pertinent locations.


  • Exhibit discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality at all times.


  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. .


  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, demonstrate organizational skills, and attention to detail.


  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Montrose and client safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.


  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite of computer-aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, ArcGIS, etc.).


  • This position can be fast-paced and demanding and will require motivated, flexible individuals to work on various tasks related to projects and grant writing.


  • The work environment will vary greatly depending on the nature of assigned tasks, this position involves local and out-of-state travel and may require work outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
