Please note: This is a hybrid position.Only candidates residing in Benton, Madison and Washington counties will be considered. This position will require a mixture of in-person work at the Best Friends Pet Resource Center, work within the local community, and some remote work.



Compensation: $15.00 per hour



Time Commitment:minimum of 15hours per week for 6 months (flexible dates between October 2024 and June 2025, potential for more hours per week depending on team's needs and candidate availability)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:



The Bilingual Community Engagement & Marketing Intern works alongside the Best FriendsCommunityMarketing Team and the Best Friends Pet Resource CenterCommunity Outreach staff to create and implement various community engagement and marketing strategies that build local relationships in Northwest Arkansas with the Spanish speaking community and promote the no-kill movement, while utilizing the Pet Resource Center to help meet the needs of pet lovers in the local community.As part of this internship, you will be integrated into the larger Best Friends Community Marketingand Pet Resource staffteamsand attend their weekly meetings. You will receive coaching and support from your supervisor and be able to also infuse your own ideas into the plans you will be responsible for delivering. The Bilingual Community Engagement & Marketing Intern reports to Marisa Sutherland, Senior Marketing Strategistand works collaboratively with the Community Outreach Staff at the Best Friends Pet Resource Center in Bentonville, AR.This is a hybrid position. Only candidates residing in Benton, Madison and Washington counties will be considered. This position will require a mixture of in-person work at the Best Friends Pet Resource Center, work within the local community, and some remote work.The minimum time commitment for this position is 15 hours per week at $15.00 per hour for 6 months (flexible dates between October 2024 and June 2025, potential for more hours per week depending on team's needs and candidate availability). More hours may become available based on the intern's availability and team needs. Students seeking college credit are welcome to apply.



RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • Work collaboratively with theCommunity Marketing Team andthe Best Friends Pet Resource Center Community Outreach Teamto maximize community engagement and marketing opportunities with the Spanish speaking community in Northwest Arkansas (grassroots, social media, events) with the goal of supporting the achievement of no-kill in the community and increasing awareness of the resources the Center has to offer to the community.






  • Lead community engagement and grassroots marketing strategies and events in Northwest Arkansas (with support from the Community Marketingand the Pet Resource Center Community Outreach teams) to increase awareness of pet retention resources, adoption, fostering and volunteer opportunities as well as important lifesaving topics such as kitten season, helping lost pets get home, and low cost spay/neuter resources.






  • Measure success of strategies and local grassroots tactics using data and analytics to quantify the success of work.






  • Meet with community influencers in Northwest Arkansas to build relationships and invite them to collaborate in support of Best Friends Pet Resource Center initiatives.






  • Treat people around you with Kindness and Compassion, build trust by demonstrating authenticity and following through on your commitments, prioritize your well-being, and work to build strong inclusive relationships with your colleagues by participating in communication loops to share and receive honest feedback.





LEARNING OUTCOMES:





  • Develop and implement a monthly marketing and community engagement plan to support an increase in adoptions and fosters.






  • Increase engagement with the Best Friends Pet Resource Center with the Spanish speaking community within Northwest Arkansas.






  • Learn and deploy grassroots marketing and community engagement best practices.






  • Develop an in-depth understanding of animal shelter marketing and community engagement.






  • Hone networking skills.






  • Gain a well-rounded knowledge of multicultural marketing, community engagement, the no-kill movement, and Best Friends' mission.






  • Develop a basic understanding ofdata & analytics and theirrelevance to livesaving.






  • Make an impact by helping to save the lives of pets in your community.





QUALIFICATIONS:





  • Must be bilingual (fluency) in English and Spanish.






  • Must have reliable transportation to travel within the Northwest Arkansas area (includes public transportation).






  • If using a personal vehicle for transportation; must have held a valid driver's license for at least three years, possess a clean driving record, and pass a motor vehicle record check.






  • Client service experience preferred, but not required.






  • Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to people and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.






  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, upbeat, energetic, and diplomatic.






  • Demonstrate tact with confidential and sensitive information.






  • Comfortable working with, handling and being in the presence of, dogs and cats of various temperaments.






  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products - specifically Outlook, Teams.






  • Best Friends issued laptop will be provided for intern use.






  • Must be able to work for extended periods of time at events or on the computer with repetitive typing, arm, and hand motion, ability to bend, stoop, reach, climb, twist, crawl, stand and walk for an extended period.


Best Friends employees may only hold one compensated position at any time. Current employees are not allowed to hold another position and this internship position at the same time.
