About this Role



The Material Handler position is an important role on the Silgan Dispensing team and is a great opportunity for those looking to advance their skills. Our plant help produce thousands of our dispensing products each day. So, it's important to keep it running efficiently and continuously. The Material Handler is responsible for supplying machines with material and packaging. Prints production documents and labels. Moves material to and from the warehouse. Uses workorders to load and stage product.


Here's a list of duties that our Material Handler performs on a typical day:

• Maintains accurate material transactions in business system.


• Provides materials, packaging, etc. per schedule.


• Prints labels and production documents per schedule.


• Maintain proper level of supplies, material, and essential tools to the machines for operators.


• Locates materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and supplies listed on production orders.


• Stage products based in customer orders.


• Movement of finished product to appropriate area in Warehouse.


• Documents materials and supplies disposition by recording units delivered and location of units.


• Completes required paperwork and turns in at end of shift (i.e. inventory transactions, production counts).


• Practice safety, quality, and good housekeeping in all job functions.


• Understands and complies with Silgan Dispensing Safety rules and practices. Reports any safety concerns to Shift Supervisors or member of plant Safety Committee.


• Other duties as assigned.

Qualified Candidates must have:

• High School diploma/GED and or work experience.


• Basic ability to read, write and understand English.


• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.


• Basic math skills: ability to add and subtract.


• Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills.


• Ability to interpret and support policies, procedures, and standards established by Silgan.


• Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a Team environment.


• Must be able to work effectively with minimum supervision.

Preferred Candidates will have:

• Willingness to assist other cross-functional groups based on needs.


• Ability to work independently and be proactive.


• Ability to analyze, interpret and report data.


• Ability to prioritize work is essential.


• Good oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands (Reasonable accommodations provided):

• Ability to lift and/or move 35 lbs.


• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the production floor.


• Physical requirements include but not limited to sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, color determination and grasping.
