Position Purpose: 

The purpose of the PE – Lean Continuous Improvement Coordinator is to drive improvements and efficiencies in the plant operations through: 1) Developing, implementing and maintaining the 5S program; 2) Identifying and completing projects through the application of lean tools, and root cause analysis; 3) Measure and communicate results and improvement opportunities to the plant leaders and partners.

Primary responsibilities:


  • Lead and sustain Lean initiatives in the plant.

  • Support PE continuous improvement activities.

  • Maintain frequent, detailed and effective communication with PE Team, Plant Partners and Plant Leadership.

  • Provide guidance on 5S, TPS, Takt Time Analysis, Poke Yoke, Kanban, Waste (Muda) Reduction, etc.

  • Facilitate cross-functional teams, for example maintenance, production and quality.

  • Partner with PE Team to realize initiatives to support continuous improvement and regional ‘Belts’.

  • Understand, troubleshoot, and perfect the use of PE Lean Tools.

  • Analyze reports, identify trends and implement process improvements.

  • Act as an important contributor to the total business process.

  • Insist upon food safety, partner safety and product quality in everything that we do.

  • Take personal responsibility for administrative details pertaining to continuous improvement.

  • Interpret and ensure consistent application of established policies and procedures.

  • Be able to identify and understand customer requirements and assist in assuring proper operation and product.

  • Record accurate date on production reports.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, subordinates and customers.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by PE Leadership.

  • Support all 3 shifts – must be flexible with hours to meet needs of business.

Essential Functions:

Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices and good housekeeping guidelines.  Must follow safety guidelines, wear designated Personal Protective Equipment, and meet OSHA Safety Requirements.  Must be able to identify and understand customer requirements.

Develop forms, registers and standard operating procedures for continuous improvement processes that comply with plant and organizational requirements.

Develop measurement tools which show compliance/non-compliance with Plant standards as established by the program and communicate these to PE Leadership, Plant Partners and Plant Leadership.

Identify and coordinate the implementation of Lean (5S) projects that will result in a substantial increase in plant effectiveness.

Monitor and coordinate the control and sustainment of process improvement efforts related to Lean activities.

Train leaders and hourly partners in defined PE Tools programs and policies

Help define and implement PE continuous improvement concepts that align with corporate priorities.

Maintain and monitor plant partner training and documentation related to process excellence.

The Lean Coordinator will be required to be certified as a Yellow Belt and an American Society of Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA) no later than the end of the first quarter a certification QIA exam is offered plus two years following the assignment into this job.

Once certified, the Lean Coordinator must participate in PE activities in order to sustain certification as outline by the ASQ and CQIA.

Must be willing to work overtime as needed and flexible to shift needs within the plant.

Travel (to include possible overnight travel) may be required for training purposes and support at other Schreiber locations.

Maintain alignment of plant PE activities in alignment with HO or company program.

Educational/Experience/Skills Required: (Minimum Level)

EDUCATION

X High School Diploma/G.E.D.

X Associate Degree or equivalent level or willingness to complete required college classes and/or training.

X Technical School or equivalent level of applied experiences or willingness to complete required technical classes and/or training.

Secondary technical class work is required.

  • 3 years manufacturing experience and/or equivalent in a position requiring confidentiality and demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Proficient PC skills in Microsoft Excel and Word. Testing (Wonderlic, MS Word, Excel, etc….) will be required with Guidelines used from the Office Technical and Hourly Leader Job Family. 

  • Interview covering skills exercises to determine communication/presentation and problems solving skills.

  • Successful partner will be expected to use various computer systems and applications including RF Flow, Power Point, Word, Excel, RMCS, OPM, etc.

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential and non-essential tasks related to the job.

  • Must have proficient computer skills and be able to meet minimal score on all required testing (Wonderlic, MS Word, Excel, etc….). 

  • Successful Partners must follow and sustain process improvements, Food Safety, Partner Safety and Food Quality. Must maintain absenteeism below 3%.

  • Requirements:

    • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills (additional skills testing required)

    • Must be self- motivated/goal oriented, driven, self-initiated with proven track record

    • Demonstrated leadership ability

    • Understanding of basic plant processes and willingness to work on production floor to better learn and become familiar with all production processes

    • Must be adaptable, willing to work any and all shifts as needed, whenever needed

    • Must have sound computer skills (Testing required)

    • Yellow Belt training and certification.

    • Passion and understanding for root cause problem solving

    • Experience and knowledge of 5S and other Lean Tools



Due to the investment in training and obtaining certifications, the successful bidder will be required to stay in this position for a minimum period of 3 years unless re-assigned in an advanced PE position.
