Department of Agricultural Sciences, Clemson University is seeking an Associate Research Scientist (Plant Molecular Biology) to work on a USDA-NIFA Sustainable Agriculture Systems funded project, “Controlled Environment Agriculture Platform for Hydroponic Cultivation of Salt-Tolerant Crops with Integrated Saline Water Irrigation and Salinity Management”. A Ph.D. is required at the time of application. The position location will be at the U.S. Vegetable Laboratory, Charleston, South Carolina.
The responsibilities of the position:
Successful candidates will have earned a PhD degree in Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Plant Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology or related field, have knowledge and experience in applied or molecular biology, bioinformatics, and biotechnology, excellent communication and collaboration skills, is self-motivated, and a willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
Preferred qualifications include experience in screening for biotic and/or abiotic stress in plants, molecular biology and/or next generation sequencing technologies, horticultural and/or plant tissue culture and gene-editing technologies, and performing bioinformatic analysis and/or familiarity with scripting languages (i.e. R, Python)
