Job Summary:

This role leads a team of engineers developing, validating, and supporting sensors for application on Cat engines and machines.

Leads all aspects of the product line, including designs from research, concept, production to end of life, including cost, quality, and delivery.

What You Will Do:

This job opening is for a component development engineering project lead within the Caterpillar ICS Electrical Components division. The candidate will be a member of the team responsible for worldwide design control of sensing components. The incumbent will work on critical new technology development for the next-generation sensing components to support Caterpillar machine and engines application needs. This leader will also conduct sensor component NPI/NTI development relevant both to Caterpillar machine or engine application requirements. These components are primarily purchased finished and utilize a wide range of product & process technologies. The incumbent will be responsible for a family or sub-family of products and will manage product line strategy, technology MGPP, all new application requests, quality & cost improvement projects, and work necessary to ensure continuity of product supply. Additionally, the incumbent will manage development of new products by leveraging a research processes (TRL) L1/L2 NPI, and APQP processes for specification, sourcing, design & process verification, and production launch. The position will require collaboration with a global supply base, purchasing, product support, parts marketing, electronic system & sub-system teams, aftermarket solutions, machine and engine product groups. The incumbent will assist with the development and execution of product, sourcing, and life cycle management strategies. Specific job activities include requirements new technology introduction and new product development, supplier selection, project management, DVP&R planning/execution, stakeholder review delivery, and project leadership of continuous improvement project (quality & cost).

Education Requirement:

• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Project Management:

Electronics Engineering:
• Anticipates the challenges and opportunities associated with creating printed circuit boards.
• Interprets alternative interfaces between hardware and software and associated requirements and considerations.
• Advises on matching methodology, materials and tools to the electronic product that is being built.
• Consults on engineering multiple electronic circuits, components or devices for EMC and performance to specification.
• Evaluates the benefits and drawbacks of analog and digital circuits.

Mechanical Engineering:
• Coaches others on most aspects of mechanical engineering related to electronics in harsh vibration, thermal, and sealing environments.
• Works with various complex mechanical design and manufacturing of electronics for off highway machines and engines

.• Determines the action plan of installation, testing and maintenance solutions for mechanical systems.
• Evaluates the performance of packaging for electronics and finds opportunities to make improvements.

Supplier Management:
• Facilitates supplier partnering arrangements that share risk and reward.
• Monitors supplier performance; works to resolve discrepancies between performance and agreements.
• Develops quality standards and controls for suppliers.
• Builds and maintains partnerships with multiple and/or large suppliers.
• Evaluates issues and terminates supplier relationships as appropriate; works with legal departments.
• Ensures the fulfillment of report and record-keeping requirements.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems:
• Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.
• Resolves difficult or high-impact equipment and systems problems.
• Monitors component performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs.
• Coaches others how to resolve integration or communications problems in multi-vendor environment.
• Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.
• Uses advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems.

Additional Information

The location for this position is Mossville, IL.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require up to 10% travel.
