Global Contract Consultant




The Broking Support Services division of North America Broking is comprised of a dedicated team of people responsible for important components of the reinsurance business Guy Carpenter places for its clients. Through knowledgeable contributions in the areas of formal contract writing and technical sales support such as evaluating client data and handling compliance requirements, our focus is to uplift those colleagues directly responsible for generating revenue while contributing to the positive experience of Guy Carpenter clients.


BSS is seeking candidates for the following position in the New York, NY; Edina, MN; Philadelphia, PA or Seattle, WA offices.



What to expect:


  • You will be an expert within a team of experts in reinsurance contract interpretation, assessment and operation, theGlobal Contract Consultant role is a key contributor to the delivery of reinsurance contract language consultation to clients, prospective clients and contract writer colleagues.

  • There will be close collaboration with broking team members, peers and contract drafters to identify, assess and address potential concerns, problems and risks that are of the most complex or innovative nature.

  • You're a member of the team responsible for the establishment, evolution and advocacy of model clauses, as well as assessing coverage/language trends and producing regular group-produced briefings and alerts to the sales operation under the general guidance of the head of the division.

  • You will be a senior collaborator, client facing as a senior expert in the organization and possess the knowledge, communication skills, and presence expected in such a role.

  • This is a fast paced, timeline sensitive environment requiring excellent multi-tasking skills.

  • This is not a legal role, though practical legal experience with companies in the insurance/reinsurance industry can be useful.

We will count on you to:



  • Bring quick comprehension of reinsurance structures and intent to the role to assist Account Executives, senior client and reinsurer representatives with design and interpretation of contract language addressing complex coverage designs and potential loss scenarios.

  • Partner with Account Executive to answer questions about contract language during the negotiation phase of reinsurance placement and to actively participate in internal and external discussions over disputed provisions.

  • Review and sign off on the work of contract drafters at regular intervals on assigned accounts.

  • Actively serve as a mentor and guide to mid-level and senior level contract drafters in the areas of technical reinsurance concepts and application.

  • May represent the company in industry events and client training and speaking engagements on a full range of topics impacting our clients.




What you need to have:


  • College degree

  • Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) and/or CPCU and/or CLU. Will consider candidates who are near completion with commitment to complete

  • 15+ years in reinsurance with focus on reinsurance contract language (such as negotiation, placement, underwriting, drafting, interpretation, dispute resolution)

  • Good primary coverage knowledge

  • Experience with interpreting regulatory requirements in a client-consultative environment

Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week on which their full team will be together in person


The applicable base salary range for this role is $191,200 to $318,800.


The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
