Job Description:

The Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Communication at Lawrence
Technological University seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Writing Studies to direct the
Horldt Writing Center, teach courses in composition, rhetoric, and communication, and develop
a robust research agenda in writing studies. The Horldt Writing Center was established five
years ago to support student writers across LTUs campus through faculty tutoring, workshops,
and writing labs. Since its founding, the Horldt Writing Center has shown consistent and
substantial growth, contributing significantly to the culture of writing on campus.
We are seeking a colleague committed to the mission of writing center administration who
shows promise as a researcher in the fields of writing studies, composition, rhetoric, and/or
communication. The new hire will work closely with our existing faculty members in the fields of
writing and communication to develop holistic, inclusive, and integrated writing pedagogy both in
general education and in writing across the curriculum/writing in the disciplines. Additionally,
there is the potential to develop post-graduate certificates in the teaching of writing.
A Ph.D. in composition, rhetoric, communication, or a related field at time of appointment is
necessary. Prior experience directing or co-directing a writing center is highly desirable;
experience with interdisciplinary research and/or digital media studies is a plus. The Horldt
Writing Center Director is required to teach three courses per academic year; potential teaching
assignments include first-year/second-year composition/communication as well as upper-
division electives, which includes opportunities to teach in literary studies, media
communication, and related fields. The remainder of the contract will be fulfilled in Writing
Center direction/tutoring, research, and departmental service. This is a 9-month, tenure-track
position, with additional opportunities for research support and summer teaching.
At LTU we are committed to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion. We especially
welcome applications from candidates who identify as BIPOC or as an underrepresented
minority, and who have experience working with teaching or mentoring diverse groups of
students. Candidates must demonstrate, in their application materials, an ability to foster
diversity on campus and within the curriculum or discipline, and must show evidence of a
commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Relevant activities might include (but are not
limited to) teaching that incorporates a focus on underrepresented communities; efforts
undertaken to develop inclusive pedagogies; collaboration and engagement with
underrepresented communities; and the mentoring of students from underrepresented groups.

How to apply
Interested applicants must send a cover letter describing interest and qualifications for the
position and a complete and updated CV as a single PDF to humchair@ltu.edu. Candidates

philosophy that addresses the role of writing centers in the support of students, a one-page
statement of research activities and goals, and a one-page statement describing their
contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Salary will be commensurate with experience;
the start date for the position is August 15, 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately
and will continue until the position is filled; for full consideration, applications must be received
by November 15, 2024.

strong commitment to a diverse, equitable, and non-discriminatory environment. Women and
minorities are encouraged to apply. Lawrence Technological University conducts pre-
