About the Department:



SMU Meadows School of the Arts educates visionary artists, scholars and arts and communications professionals to create sustainable and transformative impact on both local and global society. Today, the Meadows School has achieved prominence as one of the foremost arts education institutions in the United States and offers training in an unusual mix of the arts - visual (art and art history), performing (dance, music, and theatre) and communications (advertising, film and media arts, corporate communication and public affairs, and journalism) - as well as a preeminent program in arts management and arts entrepreneurship.


The SMU Impact Lab serves the University's entrepreneurial students, faculty and alumni in the spaces of social, creative and arts entrepreneurship. Through investments, experiential learning opportunities, course work, cross-disciplinary educational workshops, and structured mentoring, the SMU Impact Lab will invest in those who desire to have a net positive impact in the world through entrepreneurial action. About the Position:



This role is an on-campus, in-person position.


This role is central to advancing the SMU Impact Lab by managing various events and programmatic activities related to Social Innovation, Creative, and Arts Entrepreneurship, as well as Nonprofit and Arts Leadership; developing strategic partnerships within the entrepreneurship ecosystem (at SMU and beyond); and conducting targeted research on funding models, grants, and community partners to create relevant proposals for Co-Directors and Fund Manager to implement.



Essential Functions:



  • Serve as primary contact with SMU entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem on campus (several departments, clubs, and on-campus organizations), keeping Co-Directors and Fund Manager apprised of communications.


  • Work with internal departments to manage marketing, project planning, execution, and outreach of SMU Impact Lab events.


  • Identify and pursue leads for partnerships and/or additional funding of SMU Impact lab (and associated areas of social innovation, social entrepreneurship, creative entrepreneurship, arts entrepreneurship, and cultural entrepreneurship) through foundations, community stakeholders, and government offices. Prior grant writing experience is a plus.


  • Serve as outreach coordinator to promote SMU Impact Lab to external audiences, including alumni, Impact Lab mentor network, and DFW-area entrepreneur networks, as well as representing the program at relevant events nationally and locally.


  • Facilitate prompt and accurate record-keeping of meetings, notes, and communications, sharing relevant insights with Co-Directors and Fund Manager.


  • Capture and create written and visual content for promotional purposes with the assistance of internal marketing / communications departments (i.e., talking points, infographics, social media content).


  • Research social venture funding models, university centers and institutes, university ecosystems, program structures, and programming ideas in the field and adjacent fields. Report findings with proposals to Co-Directors and Fund Manager.


  • Create and maintain a program inventory document that details individual classes, minors, majors, masters, and/or certificates that exist on campus related to Social Innovation, Creative, and Arts Entrepreneurship (to be hosted on the SMU Impact Lab webpage).


  • Create and manage the SMU Student Creative & Social Entrepreneurship Club, scaling the endeavor, applying for University funding, and recruiting members.






Qualifications



Education and Experience:



A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred. A degree in Business, Marketing or Communication is a plus.


A minimum of three (3) years of experience is required. Prior grant writing skills are a plus. Experience in project management and event organization, particularly within a higher-education or non-profit setting are highly preferred.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.


Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills. A strong customer service orientation is a plus.


Candidate ability to build and maintain strong relationships is essential.


Candidate must be able to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
