Job Summary

Responsible for the design and implementation and ensure the quality of standards as dictated by all the regulatory agencies for all the policies and procedures for the Urgent Care Centers. Assist with CAP and ACHA inspection. Monitors and maintains the overall operation of the Urgent Care Laboratories. Relies on extensive experience in Laboratory medicine and utilizes this experience to plan and accomplish goals.

Job Specific Duties

• Manages all Urgent Care Centers laboratory teams and to include scheduling, staffing, Kronos review, and performance monitoring.
  
  


• Obtains current regulations, licensing requirements, and guidelines from federal, state, and other accrediting or licensing agencies and keeps laboratory staff informed. 
  
  


• Oversees clinical space - laboratories in new centers from site selection, footprint, design, procurement of equipment, supplies, and resources to ensure entire interior of clinical space is patient ready.
  
  


• Leads or attends the following meetings: UCC shared governance, management meeting, lab leadership, CAP readiness, administrative outpatient center, UCC staff meetings, quarterly UCC administrative meeting, UCC Lab staff meeting, QA Lab meeting, etc.
  
  


• Submit PI reports to leadership for reporting at the board level. 
  
  


• Accountable to finalize and submit the accreditation application and maintain; seek appropriate approvals and submits to CAP and ACHA survey review. 
  
  


• Provide a safe work environment; immediately address or inform management of safety issues or potential hazards; adhere to health and safety policies and procedures; participate in all safety programs.
  
  


• Conducts the Environment of Care review for the lab including the fire drills and safety rounds.
  
  


• Reviews quality assurance and improvement data with Laboratory Leaders, communicates with other departments involved as required, and prepares monthly and quarterly reports. 
  
  


• Reviews monthly QC, TAT, and volume for all lab statistics.
  
  


• Reviews proficiency test evaluations to ensure data is within acceptable limits and any corrective action taken is appropriate and documented. 
  
  


• Prepares monthly views Quality Assurance/Improvement data with Laboratory Quality Manager and Urgent Care Medical Laboratory Director. Communicates issues or concerns with the Medical Technologists at each center as required by the accrediting agencies. 
  
  


• Accountable to investigate all the delays in the lab processing and takes corrective action. 
  
  


• Performs volume analysis for each center for each test. 
  
  


• Responsible and assigns all new Medical Technologist orientation to include but not limited to policies, procedures, instrumentation, and Laboratory information system. Responsible to orientate any new procedures and instruments at all the Urgent Care Centers.
  
  


• Creates policies and procedures adhering to hospital and laboratory guidelines in consultation with Urgent Care Laboratory Medical Director, Laboratory Director of Operations, and the Laboratory Quality Manager. 
  
  


• Responsible for reviewing all quality controls on a monthly base, as well as, review all IQAP reports.
  
  


• Oversee the pre-analytical and post-analytical phases and monitor the QC to ensure within the CAP guidelines. 
  
  


• Responsible for method validations for all new tests or instruments, written procedures and quality controls as dictated by the accrediting agencies, and final approval of the Urgent Care Center Medical Laboratory Director. 
  
  


• Reviews and sign off on validation compliance.  Oversees team conducting parallel studies (validation, internal, etc.), evaluates new instrumentation, implement new test procedures, and revises policies. 
  
  


• Manages procedures including time and attendance and progressive disciplinary action in a timely and accurate manner. 
  
  


• Monitor and evaluate staff competencies, regulatory requirements, credentials, and accuracy & completeness of paperwork. 
  
  


• Leads lean initiative to improve processes for opportunities to deliver higher quality, cost effective care, and greater customer service which can be measured by way of metrics. 
  
  


• Ensures Clinical Engineering and Legal has updated contracts for all UCC lab equipment.  Ensures best pricing and contract agreements fulfilled for preventive maintenance and ongoing maintenance agreements. 

Minimum Job Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in a related field 
  
  


• State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor license (or) Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required in Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Microbiology and Serology – active license and in good standing throughout employment.
  
  


• 4-7 years Medical Technologist experience
  
  


• Supervisory experience in Hematology, Urinalysis, and POCT

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Master Degree preferred.
  
  


• ASCP, AMT, or AABB preferred.
  
  


• Familiarity with Cerner preferred.
  
  


• Knowledge of the CAP and ACHA regulations as it pertains to the Urgent Care Centers.
  
  


• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  
  


• Qualified as a Hematomorphologist and knowledge of Urinalysis microscopic analysis in the event a patient sample needs to be reviewed per laboratory review procedure and policies.
  
  


• Ability to communicate promptly, clearly, and courteously both verbally and writing.
  
  


• Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with physicians, patients, families, and nurses.
  
  


• Knowledge of and ability to perform laboratory techniques, familiarity of the laboratory instruments, and microscope.
  
  


• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
