Description: The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Department of Criminal Justice invites applications and nominations for the position of an Assistant Professor on a 9-month appointment. Applicants will have robust teaching portfolios and will be active educators in their discipline. The Department seeks to cultivate a student body that is intellectually curious and
civically engaged. This assistant professor should pursue innovative teaching strategies, creative works, and pedagogy. Further, they should serve as mentors to students to encourage intellectual success. Individuals will collaborate with colleagues to assess and improve curricula in their respective areas of knowledge and should increase student success through engagement with innovative projects. Assistant professors shall engage institutional citizenship as leaders at the
department, college, and university levels, and in their professional fields. Duties include innovative online undergraduate instruction, guiding research projects, and advising students. All departmental tenure-track assistant professors engage in an active research agenda, including publishing and presenting findings at academic conferences. In addition, a successful candidate will be an active player in designing, implementing, and assessing elements of the curriculum.

Note: while the department seeks to expand its online and flexible course offerings through this role, successful candidates will be expected to reside in the local area given that this position will also aid to support existing, traditional programs. Candidates should have teaching expertise in areas that complement current departmental strengths. While a wide variety of fields could meet this criterion, candidates with expertise in policing, youthful offenders/juvenile justice, developmental criminology, offender reentry/corrections, or race/inequality are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Department of Criminal Justice currently enrolls over 300 undergraduate and just under 20 master's students, many of whom seek research opportunities that require faculty mentorship. As one of the oldest programs established in the state, many faculty enjoy close working partnerships with practitioners in our region and among state agencies. Opportunities are

Requirements: For the rank of assistant professor, a doctorate (Ph.D.) in criminal justice, criminology, or closely related field is required. Individuals holding a JD, but not a PhD in criminal justice, criminology, or closely related field, will not be considered for this position. Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations.
