SUMMARY

The Environmental Services Technician I cleans onsite and offsite hospital areas and ensures there is an ample supply of clean linen for patient and facility use. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:

1. Washes and disinfects beds and mattresses. Remakes beds after dismissal of patient.

2. Deep cleans utility and storage rooms and ensures they remain in clean orderly condition.

3. Replaces soiled drapes and cubicle curtains.

4. Disinfects equipment.

5. Sweeps and mops floors.

6. Vacuums and spot cleans carpet.

7. Cleans upholstered furniture and draperies.

8. Dusts and polishes furniture, counters, and equipment. Polishes metal work.

9. Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.

10. Empties and transports trash to outside dumpsters.

11. Removes and transports all biohazard materials to appropriate area.

12. Replenishes bathroom supplies.

13. Consistently performs laundry procedures according to the prescribed Procedures of PMHC Laundry manual.

14. Lifts clean, wet articles from washer and places them successively into dryers for measured time cycles.

15. Sorts dried articles according to area or department. Folds and places them in appropriate storage bin.

16. Sorts and counts articles to verify quantities on laundry lists.

17. Sends work orders to Maintenance when any repairs are needed.

18. Notifies EVS Supervisor when in need of supplies and cleaning products.

19. Greets guests promptly and courteously.

20. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

21. Consistently adheres to Infection Control practices and Safety procedures of PMHC.

22. Is responsible for personal development in attendance of education programs/seminars, and timely completion of annual re-education.

23. Assists in data collection for Quality Assurance/Improvement.

24. Other duties as assigned

For those serving in Evening Lead Capacity:

1. Performs quality assurance inspections.

2. Inspects areas for maintenance repairs & creates work orders.

3. Inspects discharge rooms to ensure that they are clean and orderly for new admissions.

4. Evaluates team member performance and makes recommendations to Environmental Services Supervisor.

5. Assists in training of new Housekeeping employees.

6. Works with Environmental Services Supervisor to resolve problems from other departments related to housekeeping.

7. Assists with employee disciplinary reports, supplying the proper documentation.

8. Performs work schedules in Housekeeping as needed.

9. Assists Environmental Services Supervisor in maintaining inventory control of all housekeeping supplies and linen hospital-wide.

10. Supports positive morale in the department.

11. Collaborates with evening charge nurse and other healthcare team members to arrange for adequate cleaning during the evening shift.

The level of risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens is Classification (I), as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.
