Role reports to: Head of Translational Science, Baby Care

Location: Kenvue's corporate headquarters is currently located in Skillman NJ, but is scheduled to move to Summit, NJ in or around early 2025.

Travel %: 10%

Pay: Annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $141,000 to $192,000. This takes into account a number of factors including work location, the candidate's skills, experience, education level & other job-related factors.

What you will do

This position will lead the Consumer Science team as part of an end-to-end R&D organization to support the development of products for the Essential Health segment, and will be responsible for creating and leading the consumer research strategy for the team to support multiple brands such as AVEENO® BABY, BAND-AID®, JOHNSON'S®, and LISTERINE®.

The Manager of Consumer Science Essential Health will put a strong emphasis on the consumer as part of the innovation and product development process, understanding the desired consumer experience and ideal product experience and work with the team and cross-functional partners to deliver those products to consumers. You will also coordinate research to identify and validate consumer insights. As an effective communicator, you will help support a consumer-centric culture in the R&D organization. You will work closely with in R&D, marketing, Consumer Business Intelligence, and other cross-functional partners to drive project progress. You will continually assess and map external partners to access best in class methodologies, creating a network of support. Additionally, you will be expected to provide overall organizational leadership helping to drive key initiatives/programs beyond consumer science. Organizational leadership skills include but not limited to the development of talent and leading programs to identify gaps and opportunities for growth.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the Consumer Science strategy for Essential Health R&D globally, partnering with regional Consumer Science leads for program alignment and activation.

  • Excellent consumer science knowledge of and ability to apply industry emerging trends to maintain business competitiveness.

  • People leader responsible for developing and mentoring team members to further their development.

  • Develop strong working relationships with senior leaders and critical cross-functional business partners to drive business results

  • Connect technical consumer research expertise with a strong understanding of the business to better identify how to best serve the organization

  • Responsible for support of compliance procedures and continued evaluation for opportunities for improvement

  • Responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of a group by managing a team of employees of different levels

  • Design and execute exploratory qualitative and quantitative research, product design and optimization research, benchmarking studies, and consumer-perceived claims validation studies that are strategically aligned with project teams

  • Represent Consumer Science on cross functional project teams and provide guidance on consumer learning plan

  • Effectively communicate the voice of the consumer, influencing the cross functional team

  • Coordinate the execution of Consumer Science studies and act as liaison with research vendors

  • Participate in analysis and interpretation of results and communication to project teams

  • Monitor Consumer Science activities against project plans

  • Help lead the Consumer Science community of practice to support a consumer-centric culture in the R&D organization in North America and globally

  • Identify new methodologies/ approaches/ advanced methods or improve current qualitative and/or quantitative approaches to improve effectiveness and efficiency in Consumer Science
  • Ensures all activities are conducted in accordance with high ethical/quality standards and all applicable policies and procedures.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years or Master's degree with 6 years or PhD degree with 4 years of industry and/or relevant work experience in qualitative and quantitative research in Consumer & Sensory Science or Market Research.

  • Deep knowledge of consumer research, psychology, neuroscience or related field.

  • Experience and expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and sensory consumer sciences.
  • Solid understanding of research methods relevant to Consumer Science and/or Product Development with experience documenting and interpreting data.

  • Ability to research and apply industry emerging trends to maintain business competitiveness.

  • Strong organizational leadership and people development skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and communication.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence cross-functional partners across R&D and commercial functions.

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with building and delivering presentations to senior leadership to both inform and influence decision-making

• Experienced in leading consumer research in the cosmetic/OTC class of consumer products

• Solid understanding of data science methodologies
