Firm Attorney – Conflicts and Intake

Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is a national law firm with a proven reputation for providing progressive, industry-leading legal, business, regulatory and government relations advice to our regional, national and international clients.

We are currently searching for an Attorney for our Conflicts and Intake department for our Pittsburgh, PA headquarters. This attorney will be responsible for all aspects of conflict of interest searching, documentation, and analysis. Candidates must be willing and able to quickly and thoroughly become proficient in using the Firm’s conflicts database in addition to internet resources to search all new client and matters for possible conflicts of interest.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review conflict notices and new business intake forms for accuracy of information provided and clarify/correct, as necessary.
  • Draft Waivers and draft, review, and approve engagement letters.
  • Search and analyze results from conflicts database (InTapp).
  • Responsible for communicating with attorneys for the purpose of evaluating and resolving conflicts issues.
  • Assist with putting in place ethical walls through Wall Builder software
  • Become a power user of the conflicts database and financial software.
  • Search internet and understand internet tools (D&B, WorldCheck, Google, etc.) to gather information on clients, prospective clients, and adverse parties.
  • Ensure all potential conflicts are clear and approved before a client or matter request is opened
  • Maintain the integrity of conflicts with conflicts database and the Firm’s financial database.
  • Responsible for documentation of all searches in InTapp, and clearance emails – preserving an audit trail.
  • Assist Department Manager with lateral hire due diligence projects.
  • Provide research assistance on special projects.
  • Responsible for taking incoming calls on the Departmental helpline and problem-solving issues.
  • Assist Department in testing of all new software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience:

  • College Degree and JD required/practice experience and experience at a large firm a plus.
  • 2+ years previous experience processing conflicts of interest in a law firm preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications with advanced level in Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of InTapp and 3E a plus.
  • Strong customer service orientation with ability to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues at the Firm including attorneys and support staff.
  • Must be flexible in order to function seamlessly in a high volume, time sensitive environment.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve in a methodical, practical manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific and detailed instructions as needed.
