Responsibilities

Implement Automated Solutions:

  • Hands on implementation that connects machines, machine sensors, and integrated hardware/software solutions.
  • Review processes with the Global Operations Process Excellence leads and other stakeholders for suitability for automation – identifying the needs and requirements for automation of a process.
  • Program machines, robots and PLC’s to safely automate processes.
  • Document and risk asses all automation plans prior to commencing any automation work
  • Build internal capability through on-the-job learning. Train and develop support functions to maintain scalable automation solutions.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment of projects and initiatives to implement automated solutions.
  • Ensure all automation aligns with digital manufacturing data requirements – standard machine outputs aligned to our UNS.
  • Partner and align with local operations teams to develop robust financial models for IRR and NPV analysis on solutions to implement.

Establish Manufacturing Automation Standards – Automation Process SME

  • As Process SME, benchmark (external) and power users (internal) to drive best in class manufacturing standards for process excellence.
  • Extensive collaboration with the manufacturing stakeholders. In addition to identifying potential problems and resolving several issues, continually improving the processes.
  • Document standard automation manufacturing processes and requirements, utilize the M.O.S.T documentation template.
  • Manage roadmap for both moving current processes to new best in class automation standards as well as implemented new automation processes. Plan the necessary budgets and plant resources to support, through the appropriate annual planning processes.
  • Drive the implementation of all new Operations Technology global process standardization to define the enterprise automated manufacturing process for each product.
  • Evaluate and build partnerships with external best practice networks to keep current on latest process improvements, trends, and current lean practices.
  • Develop a network of global suppliers and integrators to use and deploy our automated solutions
  • Develop a scalable process.
  • Be an active member and the voice of Operations on our Global Steering Teams for each product.
  • Training coworkers on using and maintaining the designed solution, serve as a technical mentor.

Process Continuous Improvement & Sustainability

  • Support CoP’s of manufacturing processes with same core competency.
  • Continuously seek feedback from stakeholders on the process, effectiveness, metrics and subsequent activities to identify issues to resolve. Periodically conduct health check on the automated process and outcome.
  • Ensure all automation implementations report out OEE & have data feeds to enable digital 4.0 visualization of status.
  • Use metrics and analytical tools to understand areas for opportunity and change.
  • Report metrics to the leadership team to identify progress, root causes for correction or process improvement.

Driving Process Excellence in NPD, M&A, & Footprint Optimization

  • Work with OT peers to create process excellence automation standards (physical & digital) to be used as requirements and a playbook for new manufacturing processes being introduced, processes being moved, or processes being acquired.
  • Partner with Plant and Engineering teams to provide guidance and support in developing CAPEX requests to facilitate work cell make ready for automated manufacturing processes.
  • Partner with R&D & OT peers to evaluate the design for manufacturability of our new products. Provide guidance and requirements to the R&D team to support best in class automated manufacturing processing of our new products. Ensure that the product designs are optimized for manufacturing efficiency and scalability.


Qualifications

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline required, preferably from an ABET accredited program.
  • Continuing education expected.

Senior Engineer (Level I):

  • Education: Master’s degree in Automation / STEM, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in automation.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of controls, ladder logic, MQTT, OPCUA, SCADA, and robotics programming (e.g., Fanuc), Programming languages and scripting language knowledge of Python, Shell, Java / python
  • Design and Implementation: Experience in designing and implementing enclosures.
  • PLC Programming: Proficiency in programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
  • Robotics Programming: Advanced skills in robot programming.
  • CAD Design: Competency in CAD design for creating detailed and accurate automation solutions.

Principal Engineer (Level II):

In addition to Level I requirements:

  • 7 years automation experience, MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of experience. PhD may be substituted for up to 4 years of equivalent experience
  • PMP project management qualification
  • Performs complex and innovative analysis, providing technical guidance to other engineers. Acts as a technical resource in discipline and can provide general guidance in related disciplines. (Technical Knowledge and Innovation)
  • Prepares comprehensive project reports for distribution to client or management. Delivers oral presentations to varied internal and external audiences and effectively communicates technical concepts to non-technical audiences. (Communications)
  • Acts as a coach or mentor. (Developing Others)
  • Routinely makes decisions regarding technical content, priorities, scheduling and quality. (Decision-making)
  • Represents functional area on cross-disciplinary project teams, guiding technical work and influencing staff associated with project. (Planning & Organizing)
  • Identifies technical, financial or human resource needs and recommends solutions to management. (Continuous Improvement)
  • Performs in-depth reviews of work of other engineers. (Continuous Improvement

Education & Experience Preferred:

  • Lean Certification
  • Project Management Certification
  • MBA or advanced degree
  • Experience with sensors in both harsh and standard environments.
  • Experience with actuators and measurement sensors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of operations technology and its applications in industrial settings.
  • Experience in Global or Regional Engineering roles.
  • Experience selling the vision of process benefits and expected business outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and external vendors.
  • Proven project management experience, particularly in driving process change in industrialization.
