Title: Library and Learning Commons Specialist



Institution: Volunteer State Community College



Campus Location: VSCC- Springfield Center



Job Summary:


This position is responsible for providing support to Library and Learning Commons users at Volunteer State Community College at the Springfield Center. Primary duties are to welcome and assist students, faculty, and staff by delivering outstanding service. Additional duties are to provide tutoring services in reading and writing, and guidance and assistance with general and specific information about the library and library resources.



Job Duties:


In conjunction with the Learning Commons staff and with the guidance of relevant academic departments, collaborate in the continued development of tutoring services in reading and writing. Greet, interview, and obtain intake information from prospective and current students seeking assistance in the Learning Commons at the Springfield Center. Provide one-on-one and group tutoring services. Assist the English Department and Learning Commons staff with interviews for prospective English instructional assistants and peer tutors. Assist with training and mentoring reading and writing instructional assistants and peer tutors. Assist potential students/community members with writing projects related to employment (resumes, technical writing). Offer virtual support to the Learning Commons staff at all campus locations. Assist the Testing Center and English department with administration of placement exams and other tests when requested. Welcome and assist students, faculty, and staff with reference questions and information needs both in-person and remotely. Respond to incoming phone and email inquiries. Provide basic computer and technology support for library patrons, such as scanning, printing, and general eLearn needs. Coordinate with the Librarian/Instruction Services to conduct class presentations and workshops about library services, resources, and best research practices. Work with Coordinator of Library Services to circulate library materials and maintain inventory of items in electronic library services platform. Participate in collection development for the Springfield Center library. Actively promote library services to students and faculty by engaging in scheduled campus activities and contributing to digital educational materials such as research guides, website, videos, and library/campus social media accounts. Attend and participate in library and college meetings and committees as required. Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in English or related area.
Two years of related experience.



Preferred Qualifications:


Two years of English tutoring or English teaching experience.
Master's degree in an area related to Library Science, Reading, or Writing.
Library experience including general clerical experience.
Experience in higher education.

Proficient in Microsoft office applications.
Excellent planning, design, coordinating, and time management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to manage multiple projects. Highly organized and self-motivated.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to conduct class presentations and workshops effectively in a classroom or virtual setting.
Familiarity with library resources, including databases, print materials, and electronic resources such as ebooks, libguides, or websites.



Pay Rate: $43,888 - $44,782 annual salary depending on experience
