Position: Shipping Attendant


Reports to: Distribution Manager

Summary:


Directs truckers onto scales, weighs truck, loads truck with proper type of cement to weight specified, generates necessary paper work with the appropriate authorization. Responsible for loading bagged material on flatbeds, running of the pack house bagging system which would include, the bagger, the fill bin, the conveyors, the palletizer, the stretch wrap machine. Performs procedures involved with loading trucks, unloading railroad cars. Assists in the maintenance of terminal equipment and grounds. Works under close supervision with standard practice procedures and guidelines. Refers all problems to supervisor for guidance.



What you'll be contributing:




  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Assures proper cement types are loaded into bulk trucks.
  • Operates pneumatic and mechanical equipment for truck loading from computer console using programmed screens, keyboard and mouse.
  • Assures proper cement types are unloaded from railcars into designated silos, without contamination of cement types, using pneumatic and hydraulic railcar unloading equipment.
  • May operate programmable hydraulic railcar indexer, compressors, and/or a cement bagger.
  • Operates power sweeper, forklift truck and front-end loader.
  • Uses credit approval lists, cement inventory reports, and approved shipping instructions to determine if a customer's request for cement can be loaded.
  • Maintains shipping logs, prepares bills of lading, and calculates split-load tonnages based on a trucker's instructions.
  • Performs daily activities associated with handling inquiries and orders for customers and sales personnel as specified by Terminal Manager or Senior Terminal Operator.
  • Performs general cleanup duties around loading area.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.



To succeed in this position, you will need:




  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Willingness to learn, training will be provided
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills on a regular basis.
  • Ability to operate the loading systems used in loading trucks and railcars.
  • Ability to operate sweeper and general hand tools.
  • Must be able to calculate loads going into trucks by using general math calculations.
  • Must be proficient at database input and have the ability to use a computer.
  • Must be technically oriented in troubleshooting and repairing basic mechanical, pneumatic and minor electrical malfunctions.
  • Knowledge of terminal operation policies and procedures. Skill in using terminal equipment and computerized systems.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials weighing up to 80 pounds. Ability to operate all terminal equipment including railcar vibrators, silos and related equipment, switch engine, and rail cars. Ability to climb silo ladders up to 90 feet in height (as applicable for each terminal).
  • Ability to safely work in an outdoor environment with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • Ability to perform tasks that include frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing equipment, and working within confined spaces to access and inspect equipment.
  • Cement Manufacturing -- Knowledge of raw materials, methods, and the tools involved in the mining, production, shipping and packaging of cement.
  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of equipment used, machines and tools, including their uses, repair of, and maintenance.
  • Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of the technology used and manufacturing of cement. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of cement.
  • Environmental - Knowledge of proper allocation of waste material.



What to expect in a cement environment:



Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
